One can also find versions of Lion that can be burned on a single disc or copied onto one's own memory stick and used for installation.

Download it from the App Store, open the DMG file with Disk Utility (copy it to your desktop first to make a copy and use that) and then just burn that to a DVD.

Here is a link that will show you the complete process of making a bootable USB backup. I've tried it and it works great. If you have already downloaded and installed Lion, here is a link that shows you how to redownload the installer to use for creating the USB thumb drive backup.
