Ubon Unplugged - 10 Reasons To Visit

Featured Replies

I live and work in Bangkok and have a rural retreat at Baan Kham Khom Village, waterfront at Sirindhorn Dam in Ubon. I adore this place as it is 100% Authentic Rural Thailand. Does anyone have 10 Reasons to visit Ubon? Hey, I know the jokers will come up with many reasons why not to. I hope there are some others who live in or visit Ubon and would like to share their Top 10 reasons why others should visit this province.

Not maybe!

Hello Latis,

I have only visited Ubon but I was so impressed with the place.

It was great to see all that water after comming from a desolate dry upcountry way further north.

We went to the dam and it is as you say.

Ubon is close to the Mekhong river and Laos.

We were there during October a few years ago and the main river at Ubon (Moon river ? ) had been built over with bamboo board walks and little huts that you could order food and eat over the river.

I think that it was for some festival but it was fantastic and very relaxing.

I dont know why the powers that be dont push Ubon as anternative tourist destination for those that want something a little different.

Guenuine people, food , friendliness,proximity to laos,khong ghiam,phra them,isaan food,quiet lifestyle,cheaper prices, khon thai jai dee,there's your'e ten,

Your post is a little unclear to me, but I guess you don't know about Ratchathani Asoke?..........

Ratchathani Asoke - a special village

RA is A community within the Asoke Buddhist Movement where many of the vegetarian habitants have taken a stand against materialism and consumerism, and wants to maintain a simple lifestyle through hard work and selflessness.

The Ubon society is to be found on the south side of Moon (Mun) river and to the east of Warin city.

Thanks for that Trond, we'll take a look someday.

One thing, do they mind folk wandering around without the inhabitants feeling they're in a "Human Zoo" .. so to speak

Cheers Cx

That place, Ratchatani Asoke, blew us away when the Hash visited it earlier this month, courtesy of Bergen.

They love visitors and will ask you to come back. A hidden gem of Thai culture.
