Gonorrhea

Featured Replies

I listen to medical podcasts on BBC (UK radio).

There has been a recent report that gonorrhea is becoming increasingly difficult to treat due to antibiotic resistance.

This is the first report to cite the case of a Japanese sex worker who could not be treated at all, note at all!!

There is also a general rise in case that require intraveneous treatment with third generation drugs over a long period of time.

The report did stress that curently gonorrhea is curable by one or another antibiotic, but that it is thought that it could be the next incurable sexually acquired disease.

Does anyone know what the course of the disease is if left untreated, does it become a chronic ailment?, do the symptoms subside?, can the immune system cure it?

Johnnies all round!
