Monks Called In To Investigate Flowers

Monks called in to investigate flowers

On Tuesday an team of forensic monks from Wat Phra Dhammakaya near Bangkok arrived to investigate the die-off of a large number of the city's flowers. The monks, specially trained in the causes of misfortune, will spend about one week surveying the site, taking measurements, performing various experiments and meditating. At the end of the week they will present their recommendations to the city which could include anything from prayers and offerings, replanting the gardens on a more auspicious day, or even changing the name of the city.

The flowers, which carried a price tag of 4.8 million baht, were planted just last month and had been expected to last several seasons. That they are now suddenly dying leads many to suspect preternatural causes.
