My wife and I were discussing the lack of virtues of my step-mother. She told me that most Thais believe step-mother will always be evil and step-dads are okay. Now I know the world isn't as black and white as this and so does my wife but she says she has met more evil step-moms then good ones. Which is why is not surprised about the behavior of mine.

So, what does your personnal experience tell you about step-parents?

Neither, life is not a Cinderella fairy tale and one must take into the account that this is the real world and in the real world every person is different.

I think there will be a few disagreements with new people in your life but it's how you deal with them. I don't agree that one step parent will be worse than the other, it's just sterotypical.

In my situation it just so happens I get along with my Stepmother better but it hasn't always been easy, the first Thai girl he married wasn't such a sweet character my Dad made her to be but it didn't help that I had a lot going on in my life at the time and hormones were just kicking in.

I've noticed a few Thais ask me once they know I have a stepmum.

"Is she nice?"

"Do you get along"

"Is she evil?"

It is a bit old fashioned to be honest but they are just concerned I guess.

People usually only have one step parent so that will influence voting.

My stepfather used to belt me around until I was about 17 and I threw him against a far wall. He didn't come near me again.

An interesting situation for you I would think. But you will always cope, because you can.

Right, that's what I said, but I was wondering what people's personnal experiences have shown them. I am not trying to over generalize just wondering what TV members have experienced.

I handle my polls all the time with great success until some freak in klown siuts shows up and then they go all limp!

Yeah, people are saying nothing was worth talking about in Bedlam so I dreamed up a few things to help out and entertain. I will most likely be mistaken for TM if I keep this up though.

Sometimes the role of the step mother is created by our conception of her – and that conception, from a child’s point of view, can often be tainted by jealousy.

That has been my experience anyway.

I brought-up my two older children single-handed after my divorce. Ten years went before I met my present wife.

Although in my eyes she has been the perfect mother to them, their relationship to her is clearly dominated by the feelings that she is the women who has taken their Dad away from them (despite the fact they are both in their 20's now).

My parents divorced when I was a baby and my dad remarried when I was about 2. My birth mother was an unfit mother so my dad got custody. My step mother is probably the best friend I have and a wonderful person. She is kind, gentle, loving and supportive. I couldn't have asked for a better mother than the one my dad picked.

My uncle, on the other hand, was never so lucky and managed to pick awful women as his 2nd and 3rd wives.

So, again, neither, it all depends on the person.
