Maybe the answer is for the POSTER of words is to include a English word or saying and UNDERLINE the section to indicate the pronounced word they have given. Ie fun = teeth or tooth (I had FUN at

เสียตัว = to lose one's virginity; or lost virginity

This is my favorite phrase to use in Thailand, because...

Some people like to greet others, or exchange a pleasantry by asking: "have you eaten yet?" = กินข้าวหรือยัง

But not me.

Instead, when I meet someone, I don't like to just say the same-old, same-old.

So I ask them:  เสียตัวไหม = "have you lost your virginity?"

Anyway: In this case, เสีย means "broken", and ตัว means "body".

Very logical: broken body = เสียตัว = which actually means, I think... broken hymen

I think it's OK to use this with friends who like a joke.

But, you probably best not use this with most people.

I first learned เสียตัว in our first year passa Thai reading book.

If anyone wants this book, maybe I can attach a pdf file, next time someone comments about this word.

I have all my passa Thai reading books, and textbooks, scanned on a high-resolution flatbed scanner, which took me many hours.

Most of these are still stored on my Google Drive cloud account.

But not sure anyone might be interested if I were to attach a pdf format of this book.

Incompetence = ไร้ความสามารถ

Incompetent = ไร้ความสามารถ

So here, I think the important "prefix" is  " ไร้ ", meaning 'without'.

And, of course, ความสามารถ means the ability to do something, and สามารถ just means 'can' as in 'can do'

My favorite time to use the noun incompetence or the adjective incompetent, is when I am talking about local electricians in my area.

So please also remember ไร้, rai, which is, as I say, sort of like a prefix, and means without.

You can see ไร้ used quite a bit if you do some reading in passa Thai.

Passa Thai is lots of fun to read, and also more challenging than some other languages like Chinese, for example.

This is an obscure one. The "original poster" of a thread in an internet forum is called the OP.

The Thai is clearly an initialism but what do the initials stand for?

โอพี is used in speech I know. I think จขกท is used in writing.

Thanks for the offer, I'd definitely be interested. I speak passable Thai, and I am ready to start working on my reading skills. If those books are on Google Drive, it might be easier to share them that way rather than posting them here as attachments. I will PM you my gmail address if that is an option. Thanks.

Can I please do the same?

I do not use PM, or, I only use this in very rare cases.

Sorry.

What was the point of that reply?

Just trying to minimize my work-load on TV, is all.

Surely, this is understandable, even to you.

You minimize your workload by posting less, not more.

No worries. In that case, can you post/upload those PDFs? I'm sure others would be interested as well. Much appreciated!

For some reason, in the past, I was able to upload PDF copies to TV, which I did.

However, now, it seems this is no longer possible.

You can check the file types permitted, and you will see that it allows images images and videos, but no PDFs.

So...as I say....

I would still be happy to upload to my TV the books I mentioned, some time ago.

But, the site has changed the formats that can be uploaded. And, this is no longer possible.

Not sure why.

But, there must be a good reason.

Thanks, Gamma! I still say it would be easiest to just share the Google Drive files with my Google account. If you won't used direct Message at this site, is there some way I can send you my Google Account name without posting it publicly on the forum board for everyone to see?

พยาน (phayan) - a witness [noun] (a legal term)

Learned that yesterday at the local police station. Luckily I was there only as an observer rather than in a starring role...
