Does Sitting Style Matter?

Featured Replies

i've been meditating for about 3 years now. however, due to surgery on 1 of my knees i cannot 'do' the traditional lotus position.

i even feel embarrassed concerning this inability.

if any of you have attended a local shambhala/meditation center, are all in attendance assuming lotus pose?

Meditation is mind work (in it's entirety)...definitely not contingent upon (PC) body posture...sitting (however), lying, walking, standing, whatever...it's all good...and MOST DEFINITELY nothing to be embarrassed about...

Be well...

Yesterday at the health clinic I meditated while waiting for my turn, instead of fiddling with an electronic device like most people do these days, myself included. Didn't reach a deep level of concentration but I felt very relaxed and clear afterwards. Not a bad way to fill up those little voids.

Check out the thread someone posted for you. It is not so important how you sit, just sit - and practice. That is the most important. Keep going and don't let the disability stop or hinder you. It is your obstacle to deal with so keep going.

I've attended the Shambala center. No, you don't need to sit lotus style. Just ask for a chair.

Try to approach this as a practical problem and don't make it more than it is.

There is nothing to apologize for.
