Having a need to change my Visa from a Non B to a Non O (Married) I decided to head to Kuala Lumpur on the CNX / KUL Air Asia flight

Flight was good from Chiang Mai. 2500 Bt each way with tax round trip it was 6800 Bt. Note, Flight leaves CM just after 9 and arrives early afternoon. By the time you get to the Thai Embassy, it is too late to apply that day and you must wait until the next morning. I was however happy that I stopped by to see where it was and take a quick look aorund.

From the Airport there are many ways to get to town about 1 hour north of the airport. There is a high speed train, 35 RM (about 350 baht) But that places you at KL Sental station and you would still need to get from there. Since there was 3 of us, we got a taxi. You get a coupon just before leaving the bagage claim area for the taxi. They ask where your going, bags, number of people. Our cost was 84 RM (840 baht) for a nice taxi, lots of information, and hour drive to the Embassy. I was pleasently surprised that the taxi drivers were very helpful and straigh forward. Of the 20+ rides I had in the taxi while there, only once did I think I was being cheated. 1 time they even let me pay less than was on the meter. A refreshing change from BKK or most Taxi's in Thailand. Blue Taxi's have a slightly higher rates but are larger and nicer

Remember inside the arrival area to exchange money. They are few and far between. Also note the Embassy does not accept Thai Baht. I was surprised how many tried to pay with bath and were turned away.

I know there are many hotels in KL. I decided on the D villa Holiday hotel exactly accross the street from the Embasy and glad I did. Rooms start at 200 RM (2000 Baht) We got a 2 bedroom suite for 350 RM a night (3500 Bt) with kitchen, Dinning room, Living room and the 2 bedrooms as well as a balcony. Ask for a room with a view of the towers. There is free internet in the lobby as well as computer to use if needed and a basic buffet in the morning included.. If you pre book it is about 1/3 less. Taxis were always easy to get from there and you could walk to the towers if you wanted. Mcdonalds and pizza as well as a ton of other places with in walking distance or a 4 RM Taxi ride. For the ease of the Embasy as well as other locations, it was worth the cost for saved time. It is a good hotel not great, and has a pool. Key here is location.

Weather was good, Not too hot, not too cold. And not humid. They say most days it has passing rain, Didn't effect us but maybe keep that in mind.

We spent some time at the twin towers that first evening. Nice park out back and beautiful after dark. A Huge shopping center inside with EVERYTHING, Food, Grocery store, books, Movies, pubs, you could spend a week there. and we returned daily. They have a observation bridge, it is free but you need to get tickets early in the morning like at 7 a.m. But it is closed untill mid December.

Second day, after the buffet, we walked accross the street to the Embassy at 8:30 Others already there. Gate opened right at 9:00. What mattered most was once inside the garden area with seats and a tent, go near the door to the building, it is from that door first come first served, not at the gate. Once inside, at 9:30 they hand out Numbers, DO NOT LOOSE !!! the line moves fast. I was 13 and it was less than 5 minutes wait. They took my papers. Copy of passport, Wifes house book and ID signed, a hand written letter in Thai, but I know they could not read it. as well as a copy of my Marraige cert. and Passport, and copy of letter from bank and passbook copy showing 100,000 Bt. and 2 photos. He never once said a word to me as I explained item by item what it was, He collected 550 RM for the multi Non O and 200 RM for my friends SIngle Non O. A recipt is given, and they keep the Passport. They staple the number on this slip and you need to keep it to get you passport back the next day. They never asked for any originals though I had them.

That afternoon we went to China town, 10 RM (100 Bt.) taxi fare. but best if after 5:00 From there we went to Time square. Another huge shopping mall with a theme park in it, Movies, 9 RM and the world largest Boarders book store. Passing time was no problem.

Food choices are from Mcdonalds, to Pizza hut, to fancy places and food courts and street venders. From about 5 RM (50 baht) a plate but most closer to 10 RM (100 Baht)

Yes there are 7-11's there.

Next day we went walking around town for a few hours. Took a ride on the Monorail, They also have Subways, busses, trains, and taxi's every where. At 2:30 the Embassy opens again to collect your passport. again first come first served with your recipt and number on it. It went quick, less than 2 minutes and I was out the door. New Non 0 "M" in hand. again with no words said.

Everyone spoke English. Help was everywhere just for the asking.

My AIS phone worked there but I did not try to use it not knowing rates.

The taxi waited for us out side on the last morning at 4:30 for the ride back to the airport. Again about 1 hour ride. Plently of food there and coffee. The Check in was a little confusing to me, here and there and not good signage, So allow some extra time.

In all, my trip was about 20,000 Bt with airfare, taxi, hotel, visa, food. I hear some do it for less but was happy to be there and see this wonderful town, I am sure I will return in a few months to see some more of it. My friend was very happy too
