Cursor Problem

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me why my cursor keeps jumping across the screen?

Whenever I type something, the cursor will intermittently jump, and I usually find that I'm typing in the middle of something I've already written. I use a copy version of W7, but I don't think it's that, as friends also use copies, but don't have the same problem.

If yours is a laptop or notebook computer, install touchfreeze.

Alternatively, you could also try disabling the 'Enhanced Pointer Precision' feature in the Control Panel.

I am pretty sure it is the copy versions of W7

I have 2 laptops that do exactely the same thing

1st I got at work and already had W7 copy installed and had same problem

2nd own computer never a problem was running vista, then it got a virus so took to shop and had it wiped clean. Asked them to install 7, they installed copy same problem ever since

You may just have a "sticky" touchpad.

Give it a right good scrub with a damp sponge and a bit, and I mean a little bit, of fairy liquid (or Sunlaaaiiiiiit) on it.

The OP never said he was using a touch pad and as for myself I use an external mouse

Thanks for the replies.

It can't be the keyboard. I've just bought a new laptop. The shop loaded the software onto it (All copies) and I still have the problem.

I'll try the Touchfreeze, and adjusting my pointer.

I am pretty convinced it is the program. I never had this problem until they installed W7.

I am running 1 Dell and 1 Lenova, both with same proplem

Going to buy legit copy of 7 and have it installed and see what happens, and yes I know it is expensive

Dinger, it's unlikely.

It's far more likely to be either a hardware problem or maybe a driver issue, possibly even a virus...?

Maybe my bad. Is the touch pad the same as the keyboard? I have always refered to the touchpad as the on the pad area under the keyboard for moving the curser

Actually it can be the touchpad just below the typing portion of your keyboard if you do not turn it off as your hands naturally hit it when typing if you do not hold them high. I always used a mouse so had it turned off all the time when I had my Acer laptop.

Heavy drinker; It's a Lenovo, I had an Acer before that.

I also use a mouse, but still find I have the same problem. I can be moving the cursor around, and the cursor will just jump to the side of the screen.

It could be your hand accidentally touching the trackpad or the mouse might be on an uneven surface. Both will cause the pointer to jump.

If you use a mouse be sure to turn the touchpad off. It should be in instructions somewhere if not a dedicated key as it was on my Acer.

It's a Lenovo

I have a Lenovo one piece computer and gave up on the wireless mouse. Would not operate on wood surface and often skipped even on white paper. So if wireless you might want to try a USB mouse.
