Over the weekend Microsoft "retired", that is removed, its Windows Live Gallery, the online repository for, extensions and add-ons for various Windows Live services and products including Windows Vista and Windows 7 Gadgets.

I just discovered this today when I went to locate a new gadget. There was no warning.

There are only about 34 gadgets available.now.

Check it out for yourself:

What a bummer! :annoyed:

  • The Windows 7 gadgets were the best! It was one of the nicest features of the Windows 7 experience.
  • Google gadgets don't work in Windows 7 on the Windows desktop. You need to use the Google sidebar to use them. I hate sidebars! They waste too much screen.
  • Windows Vista gadgets will work, but they don't use the higher resolution of Windows 7. Many of them are hosted on other sites.
  • Windows Live Gallery was the main depository for Windows 7 gadgets. Right now you Windows 7 gadgets aren't really available anywhere else.
  • Windows 7 gadgets can continue to be developed and used. But Microsoft will not host them. I'm looking for information on other sites that host them.

Thanks a lot Microsoft for screwing the public! :realangry:

Windows 7 was your best OS to date and you do this without warning?

I think the first few sentences from the first link says it all....Microsoff ain't making any money off Win 7 gadgets; instead they will now focus their efforts on things that can make them money.

The Windows Live Gallery has been retired. In order to focus support on the much richer set of opportunities available for the newest version of Windows, Microsoft is no longer supporting development or uploading of new Gadgets.
