Slightly off topic, but related. I am in America just now and I-Pads cost exactly the same everywhere. In shops and online, same prices. looks like Apple have some sort of price fixing thing going on. Wi fi models only are $499 for 16Gb, $599 for 32Gb, $699 for 64 Gb.Dunno if it is the same in other countries though.

I think you may be onto something. Have you notified the authorities?

well i bought mine in thailand from banna IT , authorised Apple retailer, i paid 15,000 THB

in the UK same ipad 2 is 399 Pounds , 15,000 THB = 312 Pounds, so i paid 88 pounds less in thailand then the UK , as 15,000 THB = 480 Dollars, i paid 20 Dollars less then the USA..

so they are not the same price everywhere

Go to Google -> type in Apple webstore or something like that -> go to the Apple webstore -> change your country to be Thailand and surf to the iPad pages. Choose your model and there you will have your prices.

Or you can click following link ;) : iPad2

By the way, just bought a 3G version with 16GB for 19.900 baht in an iStudio shop in BKK.

This is a commodity item in high demand. You are not going to find any significant discounts unless it is a too-good-to-be-true situation (stolen, recycled, copied, etc.).

The deal with Dtac is that if you buy with Thai Credit card they offer 10 monthly payments 0% financing...

Total cost: 19.900 baht (same as apple store), but they bill your card 1,990 thb per month for 10 months.

Of course you have to use Dtac service which is 550 thb per month

Did Customs tag you for any more money when it arrived by post? I am looking to buy a kindle through Amazon, shipped from the US, and I worry that the $139, plus shipping at about $25 will vastly increase once Customs gets wind of it. Were you lucky or no??

Most of the stores (not Apples online store) will give you the VAT refund paperwork... That's about the only refund/discount possible

When you order a Kindle from Amazon they will charge you a deposit of around $40 to cover import duty. A few weeks after you take delivery, you will get a credit for any difference between the $40 and the actual charge. I received a refund of $10.

If you buy items from the Thailand Apple store, there is no duty to pay; irrespective of where the goods are despatched from (usually Singapore).
