Foreign Press Criticizes Thai Govt Flood Management

Featured Replies

Well I think Robert Amsterdam (is he really from Holland?) has powered up his army of paid ghost-writers to start churning out letters to the editors of various unmentionable publications in Thailand as well as the BBC site (a.k.a. last years' 'burn Bangkok' festival) and others .... check out tomorrow's letters to the editor.

Robert Amsterdam was born in 1956 in White Plains, New York, and moved to Ottawa, Canada at a young age where he grew up as a Canadian citizen.

From your local Dutch uncle who, living in Khet Dusit, still only sees a dry road outside. Let's hope it stays that way ;)

He is a Canadian, based in London. In addition to legal services his firm offers lobbying and "blogging" services on behalf of clients. The blogging service includes letters to editors and comments in forums. As you correctly observed around the time of last year's burnings there were a lot of letters and even more comments in forums like The Economist, all written in similar style by authors who kept repeating the same points but otherwise demonstrated a very superficial knowledge of Thailand. The package given to the writers must be a bit like the scripts given to boiler room sales people.

Funny, I always thought that PR management was the PTP's forte but given the absence of a true leader you'll always end up like this during a crisis. I can imagine the Thai FM and Commerce Ministers having their hands full in the months to come explaining to Japanese investors what went wrong.

No problem Kittirat is already planning a serious of roadshows to explain to foreign investors that nothing happened.
