Laptop'S Graphic Chip Replacement

Featured Replies

Anybody knows where can I sent my laptop to replace a graphic card for a reasonable price? I was quoted 1800 Baht and I think is a little steep.

I have this Acer laptop for 4 years, rarely used and now it happened that the start up , nothing happen and just black screen. Connect it to desktop monitor and start with safe mode, the loading just cannot finished.

Was told that the graphic card needs to change, anyone ? Thanks and any inputs appreciate!

I don't think you can change the graphics card. You can contact acer to find out if it's possible to change it. I was told "no" three years ago.

You can take it to Pantip and ask around. On the ground floor towards the car park, ask around for a guy named "Modify." He modified my IBM's motherboard about five years ago, and he also told me two years ago he could change the CPU of my Acer to something more modern.

Graphics cards on laptops are not easy or cheap to replace.

Due to the small size constraints the majority of laptop parts are a custom shape and will only fit in a few different models.

Since there are no standard components spares are in short supply and pricey.

Add to that the fact that most laptops don't have a dedicated graphics card and you may be looking at replacing a custom motherboard instead.

With a 4 year old laptop (most likely discontinued by the manufacturer) I would say 1800 baht is a good price for repair - but you may be better off using the excuse to upgrade to a more recent machine.

My TGF's Acer laptop had the same problem.

Cost me 8000 baht to repair in TukCom Pattaya.

It seems the graphic card is integrated on the motherboard (I'm no PC technician, so don't shoot me if I'm wrong).

About 8 months later, again no picture; she had to wait until I came on holiday and we had it repaired under warranty (for free !!!!).

But they mentioned it was a typical Acer problem and they wouldn't repair it fro free the next time.

About 6 months later, 3rd time broken!!!

I told her to go buy another laptop and she is now happy with her Samsung.

i think 1800 baht is a bit steep...not because of the repair (if truly that's the issue), but because the laptop is 4 years old... it's probably not worth much more than 10000 at most... now you can get quite nice notebooks for 15k or netbooks for half that...

Don't always take someone else's word for it.

Take out the RAM and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser and then try again.

In the first place, 8000 Baht to repaired it? Why don't you get a new one?

Secondly, I think this repair costs is way too much, not many people will repair with this amount. IMHO

Try booting up with a Live CD, such a Ubuntu. Just use the 'Try it' option. See if there is any output there or if the disc fails to open in RAM at all.
