MWA denied tap water shortage, assuring quality for household use

BANGKOK, 26 October 2011 (NNT)-The Flood Relief Operations Center (FROC) said the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) denied rumors that the MWA would stop producing tap water and that the water would not be clean enough for household consumption.

According to the MWA, the water produced by the MWA is of good quality and toxin free even though it may have a faint odor or display a little bit of color. Residents are encouraged to boil the water before consuming to assure the water hygiene.

If they wish to reduce the smell of chlorine in the water they can leave the water in the container for one hour before use. In the relief effort to protect the production of tap water of the MWA, sandbags have been stacked against the two meters high water.

Tap water making machines and electrical circuits around the production plant have also been covered with plastic sheets. Despite the assurance from the MWA, people are encouraged to store clean water for an emergency situation such as the power outage.

The water sample has also been taken to the Department of Medical Science (Quality of Food) for further test. It will be revealed once the result has been released. The MWA claimed that its tap water is in line with the World Health standards even though numerous people believe otherwise. For any questions regarding the tap water call MWA at 1125.

Bangkok Governor Press Conference Oct 26,

UPDATE : 26 October 2011

The Bangkok governor asked residents in Don Muang and Bangplad to 'evacuate' to a safe area/emergency shelter. He also issued a warning for Lad Prao and Wang Thonglang residents to closely monitor the flood situation tonight, urging the residents in the 2 areas to relocate their belongings or move to higher ground.

Don Muang and Bangplad

Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paripatra held a press conference at 8.30 PM on the night before Oct 27-31 period, which the government declared as emergency holidays to allow Bangkok residents to prepare for floods. He called for residents in Don Muang and Bangplad to evacuate to safe area/emergency shelter.

Lad Prao and Wang Thonglang

He reiterated the need for residents in Lad Prao and Wang Thonglang to consider relocating to higher ground after the two areas have been added to the flood watch list. He's advised the residents living in the 2 risk areas to closely monitor the flood situation and be ready to relocate or move their belongings to a safe location.

Bangkok Entering Critical Stage

The Bangkok governor reiterated once again that Bangkok is entering a critical stage but urging the public to remain calm and united. He's also requested the public's help in monitoring flood gates and barriers and for them to notify authorities of any leaks or damage.

Sukhumbhand added that the government had made the right decision not to relocate the Flood Relief Operations Center (FROC) as doing so would affect the public's morale. The governor also asked the public to listen to information from official sources such as the government, the Flood Relief Operations Center (FROC) or the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).

Residents to Be Given Advance Warning

Sukhumbhand tried to calm the public by saying when he asked if the 50 "Kor Tor Mor" were ready for floods, he meant the 50 district offices and not for the residents in the 50 districts to panic. He reiterated his promise to give residents advance warnings any given area is hit by flood.
