Eye Doctor

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I would really appreciate some advice.

Recently I had an eye infection - a very red eye and a kind of big pimple on the underside of my top eyelid.

Anyway I went to Camillian Hospital and got some anti biotic eye drops and used them for a few days and the infection seemed to go away.

However around a week ago it came back again and I carried on using the drops which seems to have cleared it up again, however the worrying thing now is that my vision in that eye is quite blurry and I can see halos around lights etc. I never really had any vision problems before so it is a little worrying.

Can anyone recommend where I can go to get it checked properly? My budget is pretty tight so I can't really afford a Bumrungrad style hospital but I want someone who can speak a little English and can check it properly. I am in the mid Sukhumvit area.

Any advice would be great!

Go to sametivej-about 800 baht for the doc + the drugs.

Your eyes are worth spending a bit more on than some clinic on the corner.

Good english language btw

It sounds to me as if you had a "Stye" which i also recently had, they recommend that you compress a nearly hot flannel against the infected eye three or four times a day and bathe the area with a baby soap or similar, you can also develop conjunctivitis from a Stye which might explain your blurred vision in which case you will also need treatment for that

As you have vision issues do have it checked - normally if a sty (stye) it can be self treated with hot compress to unblock the oil gland and drain but can become blocked deeper it seems (from Google) and turn into Chalazion which is also treated with hot compress but in turn can cause vision issues which is a time doctor should be consulted as professional draining and medication to prevent infection may be required (again from Google). Rutnin is not expensive and very professional (production line but good). Located on Soi Asoke (right side)just before the klong heading to Petchburi Road

Samitivej is a fine hospital but Rutnin Eye Hospital has the most to offer for eye problems at (I thin) somewhat lower cost.

I agree Rutnin is the best place as eye specialists. I took a friend there twice and it is not too expensive. Don't remember the actual cost for full exam but was less than I expected. http://www.rutnin.com/eng/ They are quite efficient and have a lot of international patients. As specialists they can treat any issue found.

A little late I know but I wanted to update this post for anyone that may find it helpful later on.

I went to Rutnin on a Saturday at around 12pm and after explaining to the lady at reception who spoke more than adequate English what the issue was, she said I would have to see the eye Doctor and could I come back at a specific time a few hours later. She then took my driving license and I filled in a form and was handed a small card.

When I returned later on I was directed upstairs where I was given a queue number and moved around a few various eye tests and then waited for the doctor. The doctor spoke very good English and explained to me very well what the issue was, even taking a picture of my eye and showing me on a kind of projector exactly what the issue was. He gave me a prescription and asked me to come back in two weeks. Went downstairs and paid and picked up the prescription and booked another appointment. I can't remember exactly but it was somewhere around 1400 Baht in total.

I came back in two weeks and waited a little while and then saw the same doctor who seemed to well remember what the issue was and did another examination. Again explained very well what the issue was, much better that the "general" doctor I had seen at a hospital the first time I had the issue a few months before. This time I paid somewhere around 1000 Baht in total and was happy that the issue had been resolved, so I guess he knew what he was talking about.

All in all very good experience, it is really a production line kind of place but to be fair they have a lot of people visiting them. That being said the service was very polite and efficient and the doctor was excellent. I would recommend to anyone with eye issues as somewhere worth visiting.
