After having read here about Network Magic thought I'd give it ago. Always interested in trying something new.

I downloaded and tried to install the latest trial (V5) version but I keep getting a (0x643) error. :(

I checked the Cisco help pages, where they list this (0x643) error but after trying all their various solutions I still can't get the program to load. I filed in their request assistance form but that led me to another load of "have you tried this" pages so after several hours I gave up.

Just out of interest I tried the free V4 trial and that loaded and worked just fine, so I don't know what the problem might be with V5.

Bit of along shot but anyone here have the same problem with V5 and can offer a solution.

I'm running XP Pro SP3 and IE8

Thank you.

first I use the Network Magic 5.5 free trial and then I purchased the 5.5 Pro. so far very smooth and no pronlem at all, touch wood.

cisco support is as good ( and as bad ) as MSoft, you won't able to get the solution straight away.

after years using it on both a Windows XP laptop, a Windows Vista then a Windows 7 laptop, and now on a Windows 7 desktop. my opinion is - a nice-to-have utility, simpilified and help us to understand the network space. it is NOT a must-have application.

I agree it's not a must have App but I like trying out stuff so thought to give it a try.

Yes Cisco support seems to be fairly good maybe too good as there are so many pages of "have you tried this" that you get lost in the maze.

Been trying for a couple of days now but still can't get past the(0x643)error.

Just thought someone here might have had same problem and point me in the direction of a solution.

Think I'll give it another go today, don't like being defeated by a bit of software.

found following links that directly discuss the installation error 0x642, there are workable solutions but a bit technical :

from ehow.com

from cisco knowledge base, using different installation channels

enjoy the new challenge !

Thanks for the links "ETatBKK".

I have tried all of those before, except for the M$ link which was about .NET Framework and didn't seem relevant.

Anyway tried them all again but still no success. This is getting personal :annoyed:

Figured out their "help if all else fails" system and have sent them details of the problem.

Hopefully get a response from their boffins in a few days.
