I agree with barka. I've been going there for a few years now. A very nice dentist that does very good work. Their number is: 076283469.

I highly recommend not going to Happy Tooth as a fiend of mine had a a major infection after a root canal!

last week i shopped around, 4 dentists. for the same job they where asking 52-65k baht. BKK hospital beeing the 65k baht, but I do feel comfy about quality and backupsystem in case of problems. In addition they have no reason to cheat on gold quality in crowns, and their rootcanal specialist is amazing, and they accept CC but all the others said price pended on cash only

so BKK hospital this time too

I found the same thing - Phuket/Bangkok hospital dental charges aren't as OTT as their other prices.

I lost a part of one of my back teeth and went to the dentist at the junction of Sai Yuan and Viset (?) - three way junction where Mimi's used to be.

They hacked at my tooth until I could no longer stand the pain despite the local anaesthetic. They then told me I needed a root canal which they could not do, but referred me to someone near Phuket Town. After that I could go back to them for the crown.

Long story short - the whole thing was a nightmare! The pain was beyond my threshold and it still didn't work...

I went to Phuket Bangkok hospital and demanded a general anaesthetic. Apart from the obvious cost of the anaesthetic, the other charges were little more than those that would have been charged by the local dentist.

I can only speak for myself and my family. We are all registered here and we have had great service. I am not running BKK Phuket down as I have had year of good treatment there, but now they have gone too expensive. I am now getting personal service from a very good dentist who knows her job .. her name is Dr Boon Jaron .. DDS :annoyed:

I thought Thailand woul;d be a good place to save money and have the job done. Boy was I wrong!

The dentist (Phuket Cosmetic Dental, near Bkk Hospital) charges;

200 euro for a crown

250 euro for an inlay

300 for a ceramic crown

300 euro for molar root canal

and an unbelieveable 1,500-2,000 euro (!) for an implant.

This seemed crazy in a country where a lot of people survive on 250 euro (10,000 baht)per month.

So I went searching and guess what? Hungary. I just had;

2 inplants @ 400 euro each

2 circon ceramic crowns @ 120 euro each

3 root canal fillings @ 70 euro for all 3

and 9 ceramic inlays @ 120 euro each.

All in a top, spotless modern surgery. Two panorama x-rays, all medication, a cleaning and the examination were free. Forget it Thailand...you are out of the picture. If you want top class, guaranteed legally backed treatment then head for Eastern Europe EC countries such as Hungary, Poland or Czec.

The bottom line? Have a holiday and save money if you need major work done, and in a far safer environment where the dentist may actually care if something neeeds to be replaced/repaired FOC.

I have found Phuket Dental Home in Karon very good. Prices reasonable and good freedback from other friend's I recommend. They work with a lot of Scandie tourist as well through the agents.

There is a German dentist opposite Tesco in Rawai.. that I have heard is good. but I have no further info.

I use Dente Smile in Chalong. So far so good but have only had fillings and cleanings. Not very cheap but good service and nice guy that speaks good English.

That's why they named it Happy Tooth, and not Happy Root Canal.

Same here - very impressed with her skills and patience, although they seem to be pretty busy most of the time - have to call a week in advance for appointment.

Gf and I have both gone to Tooth Town on Wichit Rd. about 500m from Chalong Circle next to DVD Movie rental. Owned and run by a a nice young lady dentist. The gf adores her as she has taken the fear out of dental visits for her. Quick, painless, clean, modern, English speaking.

Don't say Thailand is out for tooth care. At Tooth Town it's 600B (19usd) for cleaning or to have cavities filled. Last time I was home my long time family dentist there charged 129US(4000B) for a cleaning and 225usd(7000B) per cavity!! There are cheaper places than Tooth Town, (Patong Hospital, 200B for cleaning or cavity filled) but dental work is not necessarily something I want to go to the lowest bidder.

Got wonderful dental work done at Seasmile Dental Clinic on Patong beach some time ago. Great doctors, those specialists work in team. They even had the implant specialist fly from Bangkok for some complicated case. Besides, they are also cheaper than BKK-Phuket hospital.

I just can't get a grip on their prices now that I have been to Hungary. They are crazy. What about your guy? What does he charge?

I had my treatments there 3 weeks ago and so far so good.

By the way just for some info. My dentist here in bankrupt, IMF run, 15%unemployed, 100,000 houses in arrears threw a few prices at me.

Implant €2,400

Crown €800

Inlay €1,000

Root canal €150 per canal

etc, etc. No wonder thay wear a mask over half their face....robbing bandits.

at BKK hospital I pay

root canal, 3.000 baht/canal. remark to this price, it turned out to be a bad infection in 2 molars, so 2 hours extra treatment and 5 days antibiotics to get rid of it, no extra charge.

gold molar crown, 50% gold porcelain covered, 12.000 baht each

did the same 5 years ago, some porcelain has been worne off the crown making gold visible in a spot, and they offer a new one for free. probably cause they know I wont bother  as its an invisible molar

their rootcanal specialist, fancy doctor name, does 8-10 teeth a day. one or two days in Phuket, rest of the week in Bkk, extremely professional, completes with an xray, and of couse totally painless treatment. One 4 canal molar in 40 minutes from i enter the room

one of the other cliniques offered rootcanal saturday at 7-9pm, or visit specialist in town, to be fair their prices where approx 10-15% lower

I have done rootcanals where an ordinary dentist use 10 minutes just to fit the kopferdom (latex tooth isolator), and will never again.

Phuket Smile.

On Chao Fa Road East. Going towards Town, a little bit past the "bigger" Tesco Lotus (the one with all the banks etc) , and located in a row of shops on the right side. There is a 7/11 close by, so easy to find.

Dr. Akin Indee. Used him for the last 2 years, and good English.........076244227

Great doctor and very reasonable prices.

Just going to revive this thread as I recently had a couple of great experiences.

I finally gave in to the pain and went for a much needed root canal. For no particular reason I started at the newer dentist in Chalong between Whalen Language School and the now torn down "Super Maket". About 100M from the circle going towards Kata, right hand side. Has the word "Smile" in the name as so many dentists here seem to. Anyway, got an appointment right away, English speaking dentist poked around, took X-Rays, identified a couple other issues, and gave me a referral to Kata Dental Art in Kata. When I asked how much, he said no charge!! I am thinking perhaps he makes commission on the referral.

So off to Kata Dental Art at the corner of Patak Rd and Kata New Rd. across from the fresh fish market. I was optimistic about this place as it had been recommended to me before. Dr. Tan and the woman who works at the front desk both speak English well. The procedure was quick and painless and a fair price at just 8000B for 3 of four roots of a molar. Went back for the draining and permanent filling yesterday and now I am so happy to be able to eat pain free again. I was terrified to have this done but feel silly now considering how easy it was. They even offer you an easy payment plan if you don't have the dosh in your pocket at the moment. http://www.dentalartkata.com/

I would like to recommend Dr. Nontapong at the Central Smile Clinic. He just did a lower left wisdom tooth extraction. Very pleased with professional manner and he is very friendly and English is pretty good. Cost was 800 baht but I also wanted 2 x-rays @ 200 baht each. Post=op meds were free, and I had a followup visit to discuss swollen cheek, exam and more meds no charge. It is very scary to have to find a dentist in a foreign country, but Dr. Nontapong made me feel very comfortable. The Central Smile Clinic is easily found on the Internet and is located just off the Thainan intersection (Central Festival), adjoining and essentially just past the Surakul Stadium on the same side of the street. In various visits over time, I never had any trouble parking on either side of the road.

800 baht for a wisdom tooth extraction sounds very cheap. i thought that was a huge job.

Bumping this, as I think I need a root canal. My bottom left molar has been really hurting this past week so I went to a dental clinic in Phuket Town, just at the bottom of Rang Hill. The place is called Rang Hill Dental Clinic: http://www.ranghilldentalclinic.com/home_en.html. I had been there a few weeks prior to get my previous root canal / crown checked out. I got it done in China and wanted to make sure that it was okay. The dentist said that it was some of the most beautiful work she had ever seen.

Anyway, this time I saw a different guy. He's not a specialist but he looked at the X-ray of the hurting tooth and said that I needed a root canal. The cost was going to be 12,000 baht for the root canal plus 14,000 for the ceramic crown. He said that it would take 2-3 visits. I told him I'd think about it. I checked online but could not find any reviews for Rang Hill Dental Clinic. Anyone ever heard of them? I do, however, see loads of good reviews for Sea Smile Dental Clinic in Patong. It's a bit further away (I live in Thalang) but worth it if the quality is better.

I know a few people that have used 'happy tooth' on Patak road opposite Walen school, they all said it was great

Happy Tooth WAS good when it first opened several years ago by an English trained dentist. She then moved on, sub letting it to a friend - one of the worst dentists I've ever come across. Body swerve Unhappy tooth.

When I am in need of a difficult treatment that my own dentist can not do there are a few options available to me. One of them is Bangkok Phuket hospital, but I dislike their dental clinic, the other one is a clinic on the same street as BPH, but most of the time I would have to wait there for months, and Rang Hill dental clinic. I don't really like the clinic, but have had good treatments there.

So when I'm in need of something special I'd probably end up there again.
