Probably Chilomastix mesnili ; this organism is not considered to be pathogenic (causing disease) except perhaps in children and is thought to be a normal inhabitant of the lower gut.

In this case, perhaps as a result of flooding, there is contamination of water with animal fecal material, and perhaps the bug has grown more bold...

Similar to Giardia; perhaps a misdiagnosis?

Treatment would be the same anyway..
