1) download the pre-made quartz filters from: https://public.me.com/jcolas

2) copy the files to /library/PDF Services

3) re-launch pdf program, if needed. in preview or other program, Use the Save as / print as pdf option. Where it says "quartz filter", you should see the new options.

Very useful and free method to reduce pdf file sizes, without reducing quality. Figured this might save someone a few hours of searching.
