Wifi To Exisitng Wired Router?

Currently have a TOT wired router and package for 1 year for the existing PC.

Just acquired an ipad2 and a laptop and would like to connect wirelessly around the house what's the simplest way to do this bearing in mind my tech skills end at switching on?

You can certainly 'add' a wireless router to your existing modem/router combination but I'm not sure you'd want to. The quality of the equipment supplied by the ISP's is notoriously of poor quality and if you're not having trouble now, you probably will soon.

If it were me, I'd simply replace what you have with a wireless modem/router of a good quality with a great reputation. TP-Link's TD-8961n is such a unit in my opinion. The original TD-8960 I reviewed herehas climbed to more than 15,500 hits with hundreds of positive feedback from readers who love this unit. So far I've seen only one negative response to this model and it was here somewhere in these threads. Bad ones do get through. They're inexpensive, easy to set up, and will handle the gear you listed at their fastest speeds. And the thing is, this will cost you the same or less than just adding a wireless unit.. TP-link is really inexpensive gear.

yes I will echo that

During set up the 'wizard' will ask what ISP you use, then configure your router for you, then all you do is enter your user name and password, given to you by your ISP.

Then you make your own password for your wireless devices

It is a straight swap for the unit you already have

You will be up and working within 5 mins

I have the cheapie modem that TOT gave to me almost 2 years ago. It's working fine...at least I think so?

My problem is the phone line is in the office, and WiFi from there is not very good. So, I had to run CAT 5 to the living room where there is a true line of sight to all over the house and property. I put my wireless router there....with a switch in the middle. Works great.

I bought one in July and there weren't many left, most places are selling the 8961N now. The shop at the back of Ikon (next to Com Plaza on the moat) that faces the shops selling 2nd hand memory have TPLink gear and you can ask them to get one from the TPLink service centre upstairs if they have any left in stock.
