A Brittle Hair Spot (On The Scalp)

Featured Replies

my 17 y.o. niece has a spot on her scalp right at the cowlick where her hair becomes brittle and breaks off...other wise her hair is nice and shiny and becomes her nicely as she is a very beautiful girl...she's tried all sorts of shampoos and hair treatments to no avail on the suggestion of local hairdressers, etc

her uncle tutsi who always wants the wimminfolk to look their best wonders what to suggest in this regard...looks like it might be a job for a scalp doctor in BKK to sort out...maybe a vitamin deficiency? she is a healthy active girl with a new baby but the spot existed beforehand...

please help...Sheryl?

She may have this syndrome ? http://en.wikipedia....se_and_Genetics

thanks, I'll have to check it out esp with regard to the hereditary angle and her father...seems to be a recent phenomenon as when she was younger she had a good head of hair in the school girl bob and she use to like to play tricks on me that required considerable intelligence in the planning and execution...since puberty everything has changed...

Seriously, Tutsi, is there anything on her scalp also...besides the hair loss and "brittle" hair?

I"m not any kind of a doctor, but my uninformed sugestion is that she see a scalp specialist/dermatologist and get it looked at.

If it is nothing, no problem.

But exactly what is "brittle hair"....don't like the sound of that very much.

As I said before....I'm not a doctor.

She should have it looked at though.

I've had a look and it only seems to be one spot on her scalp that's affected and it's only been within the past 2-3 years or so...I figured that if no one had any advice on the forum then I'd take her to BKK to have a doctor there take a look...I haveta go meself soon to see the dentist before I mobilise for another assignment so I'll try to do it then....

when I say 'brittle hair' I mean that there is no bald spot but that the hair there never gets to be longer than 1-2 cm...it's very unsightly and she does a 'comb over' to hide it...she had really nice thick hair when she was a young school girl...

thanks for your concern...
