Hi everyone.

Every now and again I get emails from individuals complaining about the struggles they have getting their full security deposits returned when moving out of their residence. I’m not sure why tenants email me a bout this as there’s nothing I can physically do to change or chase up their complaints.

It does make for a controversial point though. If there are a few chips, scratches and broken items in the building that have been caused by the tenants, then it’s only fair the landlords should be compensated when those tenants move out. This is why they protect themselves with a security deposit of course and there’s nothing wrong with that.

However, how many renters feel they are genuinely getting ripped off when it comes to getting back their security deposit. Some say they get charged for something that was not caused by themselves whereas others complain that they have hassles just getting the deposit returned in general.

The last place I moved out from were as good as gold and the full amount was paid as soon as the final bills were settled i.e. telephone, electricity etc...

The place before that was a nightmare. It took 6 painful weeks of chasing up the deposit to the point where the office got angry with ’us’ for harassing them. We got it in the end but it an unnecessary stress all the same.

So the poll above is to get an indication of the problem, (if indeed there is one) and if it’s results are negative then perhaps the landlords that frequent this forum can sit up and take note.

We’ll pin the poll for a month so it gets a good viewing, after which time It’ll be moved down into the forum.

Please DO NOT use this as an opportunity to name and shame individual places or landlords. There are 2 sides to every story and it is not the purpose of this post to stir up personal vendettas. >> ANY POSTS THAT GET PERSONAL WILL BE DELETED <<

If anyone would like more details about a particular post then you can always send a personal msg to that member requesting additional information.

Cheers
