I was in Koh Samui in July this year and it was great!!!! I hope everbody is ok there and that there not to much damage is, not for the tourists but for the local people, they're really nice and friendly. I'll stay at the Green Guest House in Chaweng, does somebody know if its damaged because they're not replying my emails. Thanks a lot and see everbody in December!!! greetings

John,

There's a different thread going on with pics, I think it's the one about Phangan.

Samui will be in full swing come mid dec, don't worry.

What's a little flood in SEA? Everyone's used to it. They cope and life carries on. Business as usual. Mai Pen Rai.

I am supposed to fly to Koh Samui on 4th Dec. Appreciate any updates on the situation there. The Bangkok Post reported more rains and lotsa damage, roads inaccessible due to floods, no electricity, restaurants and hotels closed. Don't think it's going to be much fun like that. :o

only speaking for chaweng....we are 80% as normal.

alot of shops have lost their stock and there is evidence of the floods around as in damage etc , but most of the bars and restaurants are open for trade and the locals are putting on a very brave face.

soi reggea is open as usual with on-going repairs and the girls are still shouting "helo welcome!"

THE PFC BAR is still partying on!!!

look forward to seeing you! :D

this is starting to sound like the tsunami all over again. the sensationalist media coverage turns a mole hill into a mountain and the economic damage caused by press coverage is 10 times that of the incident its self!

Actually Steve, I doubt the international media has picked it up that much, it seems to be mostly people checking the news specifically for Thailand.

I've found that people tend to overreact when their holidays might be at risk for bad weather.

After all, it was only a strong rain. Happens in BKK every now and then.

People might think Samui is a Mickey Mouse place with no capable government.

Indeed, what's the way out when something happens?

After all that, I am thiking twice whether to go there again or not.

Good comment.

Totally spot on there SBK, there's been nothing on UK news of this, (that I've seen-I see a lot), people obviously just worried about they're holidays.

Read the news for where you are going, from where you are going. *Not where you're coming from. *(or at least as-well as)

I was just in Samui and Lamai a couple of weeks back. Just found a news item with some photos of Lamai beach road and its trashed. Seven dead so far on Samui as far as I can tell from web news, so its pretty major.

I was thinking about buying a property on Samui, certainly makes you think long and hard about it now...

Just got a txt from my ladyboy friend in Reggae Street - their bar is open again and she has moved back to her room in Reggae Street, so its obviously not too bad now.

Mind you, weather forecast is baaaad...

TTM,

Here you are again, first you tey to tell us your off the wall comments in one thread and you get put back on the right track by various posters but without comment by you.

Now you try to pull the same thing in this thread.

It wasn't just a strong rain, it was very hard rain combined with astorm for a couple of days. As already pointed out to you, other places in the world would have similar problems.

Banhkok sometimes has heavy rains? Well you lived there long enough to know that innthe rainy season parts of BKK are always flooded, so what's your point?

Mickey Mouse island huh, well, let's go down that way than, Samui is part of Thailand, so a is Thailand a Mickey Mouse country? You have a baby with a Thai girl, a Mickey Mouse baby?

What's the way out of any island on this planet called earth? Not a problem simply related to Samui. Maybe look a little bit further than your our own nose before you make such strange comments that just don't hold substance.
