Where To Buy Good Used Mopeds In Phuket?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm only new to the forum, but I've been reading here awhile, tried not posting cause I get addicted to forums! I even run my own one now.

Anyway, I been living in Chalong about 4 months now and I want to buy 2 mopeds. I know all about

greenbooks and visas, I just simply want to know where is a good place to buy from?

The type of mopeds I want are clicks or scoopies. Around 125cc, with less than 20k km and only automatic ones.

I've been to Phuket town, and drove around all day looking at places but 99% of them only sell new mopeds which I don't want yet. Has anyone any advice?

P.S I've used the search function, and checked bahtsold and thai classifieds but they didn't answer my question. I also asked alot of the locals but they just keep telling me "phuket town" and that's it. I'm not finding anything specific to go on.

I appreciate any useful input anyone can give :)

Have a look in jungcelong go to the underground carpark head for Big C area. There is a guy there under the escalator as you go up to Big C selling 2nd hand bikes all around 1 year old and low Kms looks to be Repossession from Bkk

Thanks very much Peter.. I might just tip over nowjap.gif Any idea when he closes?

I only seen one decent sized place in Phuket town, just off bangkok road, opposite a big white filling station, but the guy was grinning so hard and showing me the crappest bikes possible I had to go.. I would have been well and trully ripped off.

Should be open till 10pm even if the guy is not there you can still have a look at the bike and most of them have the price on. You could all so have a look at the classified on here there is a guy called joemotobike selling bike looks to have a good turn over of stock think he is up somewhere near the Airport.

If you go open-eyed through the streets you see dozens of motorbike repair shops. Many of them sell bikes. And: The bikes are not always stored at the repair site :-) ... Find a trustworthy...

Yeah the classifieds on here are better than I thought.. just alot of stuff is outside of Phuket, so no use to me, I will go over to Patong in the morning and update this thread with how I get on for others to see.

I tried that and it was a waste of time, I find It's always better to buy from recommendations. And also those guys have really poor english.. It's just nicer to deal with proper dealers in this situation. If I had a Thai girlfriend then I'd try that route! But it just didn't work for me.

Bikes of the type and age you want hold their value. You would be better off buying new.

I don't know if you typed that wrong... but why would I not want a bike that holds it's value? That's actually the entire point in me buying a good second hand moped.

Well can you give him some examples then ie locations

The point is: buy a new one, holds it value and is a better investment than a relatively expensive 2nd hand one.

Buy you indicated you don't want that, so KB's point seems to be moot.

You run your own forum for forum addicts? Excellent stuff!

Where I live in Rawai, on Soi Yanui at the weiset road end next too the little market, there is a German guy that rents motorbikes,

I have rented from him before and he really takes good care of his bikes.....

Most times i drive by there he has a for sale sign on one or two of the bikes as he buys new ones all the time and sells the older ones...

like i said he takes good care of his bikes might be a good place too look for a deal on a 2nd hand bike ??

good luck

OK so to update my trip to the place in jungceylon -

Basically they only have bikes with around 4k km and they sell them at +37,000 on average.

In this case I'd be better off buying new for that kinda of money.

I'm really looking for bikes with say 18,000km for about 25,000 like I see advertised around Thailand,

but sadly not in Phuket... no idea why!

I think I know the spot, and will try him tomorrow! Thanks for the tip.

Mcdonalds Phuket Town, at the traffic lights, both sides sell second hand motorbikes, they have alot!

I was at a place just slightly down from Mc Donalds. At the traffic lights, heading back towards the weekend market direction.

I went in there on my first night of looking and they would only sell me 3 year old bikes, for one year old prices. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Tomorrow I will take a look around the Rawai / Nai Harn direction and if I can't find anything I will hit up a small dealer in Phuket town who was giving me a fair price on 2 bikes. I'll get a mechanic I know of, and I'll update this thread when I've more news :)

I think there is a big second hand shop on the road into Phuket Town, next to the AIG office, opposite the Vachira outpatient facility.

I'm 99% sure this is the place we we're just talking about -

That guy was only interested in selling me a crappy click with 78,000km on it! Ehh no thanks.. I kept asking about the other bikes and he said "ohh they're not for sell, only these ones" and that was that. In the end he offered me 2 x mios for 22,000 each but they'd been well abused and at that point I just didn't want to know him.

I can't get over how few second hand bikes are being sold here, the place is ruined in bikes yet no big wholesalers? It's given me an idea to setup my own place, because I really don't see how there isn't alot of dealers around. Where do all the bikes on the island wind up? (A scrap yard I presume)

Since I'm mentioning Phuket Town and you were talking about Jungceylon I'm pretty sure these are different places.

The problems you seem to be having buying a second hand bike,i think you will still be looking for a long time..this is Phuket, prices are high....my advice is take K Bs..advice buy new..dont waste your time running around looking for bargains that arent there..

It would be nice to see someone set up a bike "flea market" like they have behind Ruamchok market in Chiang Mai. Every Saturday and Sunday, a hundred or more bikes for sale. Prices displayed on all of them, owners there to haggle with, tests drives, etc. Cost about 20 baht to display and sell there. Also had many cars and pickups for sale there. Opportunity for someone out there.

there is, opposite the Esso pump. dropped by couple of times, wasted time as a new one costs slightly more

joesmotobike has many ads in classifieds.thaivisa.com and obviously high turn over, but prices are almost as new

As you can see we are talking about the same place, and in the last 2 lines I mentioned the place in Phuket you we're talking about. I do know the island by now, just don't know where there's any reputable second hand moped/scooter dealers.

This is what I was expecting... I come from a country with zero mopeds driving round, and I wouldn't have this much trouble finding a decent second hand bike.

Yup again... that's the place in Phuket town that tried ripping me off... they would only sell me about 4 mopeds out of that whole showroom... don't go near there.

Ive bought 2 from the guys opposite the Esso Petrol Pump, that was about 2 years ago, I recently sold one wave to a mate, the other Airblade is still going strong. I would reccomend them but they are hard to barter with. They wont come down on the price.

I also recently bought 3 Airblades from a shop in Phuket town, if you turn right at Central, follow the road along till you come to the first left hand turn. There is a second hand shop there with a repair shop attached, They offer a 3 month warranty and I beat them down on the price pretty hard. My neighbor (who also rents bikes) has bought about 14 from them over the last 18 months, no complaints from me or my neighbor

Funny you say that... if your coming from central and instead take the right, there's a guy just there too. Similar description of a shop, and he seemed very decent. Must be a good spot in the town!
