Took the leap and did it... everything is OK for my iPhone 4.

Now... hope they release the 4S one soon.

Yep, same here. Untethered JB works with the latest redsn0w... since there's lots and lots of spammy sites out there, here one that's official and that works, the dev team blog:

I am guessing you mean you are hoping the 4S jailbreak will be coming soon, as the iPhone 4S has been out for a while already...

By the way, the only hangup I had was with iTunes. When it starts to install iOS 5, it first does a "long" backup. That is it looks like it's going to take at least half an hour, not like the normal sync backups that take a few seconds. Unfortunately on my phone, this long backup always fails, and then iTunes presents me with the option to continue and lose all the data on my phone, or abort.

So the thing to do is:

- Sync (which does a backup)

- Restore with iOS 5

- Restore new phone from the normal backup, which works fine

- Then jailbreak.

Not sure if others have this issue too, maybe it's because of the Jailbreak, I don't know.

I think jail breaking is a strange beast in itself and everyone who does it experiences something different...for better or worse. Nonetheless, the more we discover and share, the better.

While I did not experience the back up issues... I always have my fingers crossed when a jb a iDevice...

To date... done 5 or 6 iPhones and 2 iPads... only "killed" 1 iPhone4 but the telco in Spore changed it for free... so...
