Hey all.

Getting an iphone 4 soon. I'd like to know what service I should use for 3G internet.

I will be doing customer support for my own website and need to be logged on Skype as much as possible. I'd like to have Skype on while out, and get a notification if someone sends me a private message. Is this possible?

Is the 3g service fast enough for that as well and what company should I go for?

thanks

Alex

Yeah you can remain logged in to skype, its in the skype preferences whether or not it logs you out when the app closes.

True-H is probably the best deal right now.

Whether or not Skype calls work well over 3G really depends. Sometimes they do, sometimes they dont. Definitely have to turn off video though. Messages are no problem, obviously.

Be aware that if you leave Skype logged in, your battery will drain very quickly.

3G always works well for me on Skype audio, and I have used it on video quite often as well.

Are you sure about that? The way multi tasking works in ios this shouldn't matter as the app is not running in the background. Instead the app is sleeping like all other apps and only when there are network events - like somebody calls you - does the app wake up. Even if there are network events Skype itself should only get fired up when you answer a call, open a message, or otherwise explicitly open Skype.

Using skype uses a lot of battery though, especially video. Thats true even on the laptop, they use very expensive video compression algorithms and run the CPU hot. Chances are they wont fix that on Mac or iOS as Skype is now owned by Microsoft...

Is it your personal experience that the battery drains faster when Skype remains logged in?

If so then maybe it doesnt quite work the way I thought it would / should.
