Car Taxes

Featured Replies

Can anyone please help verify the costs of car ownership in Thailand? I bought a new Honda Civic 1.6 auto 2 years ago which is kept & registered to my girlfriend, The car tax is due 2900b & the insurance 22,000b and something she calls ACT at 6842b which she says is driver protection insurance.

Can anyone please identify these items or am I being scammed?

there is no civic 1,6 in TH, so lets assume its a 1,8

never heard about ACT, sometimes Por Or Bor(compulsory Insurance) is not included in the full Insurance price, but thats 645 baht

yearly costs are car tax, compulsary insurance, and optional insurance, but at 22,000 baht thats seems excessive to me, you need to shop around

And is compulsory insurance still required when one has full coverage? If so what a scam as it should already be covered in full coverage so why the need for redundancy? Except to make a buck.. We have managed to get max liability and personal injury in spite of an older car we just don't have comprehensive so our car isn't covered but we still have to have compulsory it's nothing more then a scam to have that redundancy IMO.

I have found them to usually be in 2 different agreements, but as new car seller pay them I havent considered it a scam

I don't think it a scam by the sellers but by the government, there's no need for the redundancy except to collect more money IMO..

The 600 odd bht is a Compolsary Gov. Insurance, we all pay it, (well half where l am don't) but l must say you are being ripped off somewhere for your private insurance cover. Try A.A. insurance, they speak English and reply by email too.
