January 8, 201214 yr Egyptian women cane morality police Vigilante gangs of ultra-conservative Salafi men have been harassing shop owners and female customers in rural towns around Egypt for “indecent behavior,” according to reports in the Egyptian news media. But when they burst into a beauty salon in the Nile delta town of Benha this week and ordered the women inside to stop what they were doing or face physical punishment, the women struck back, whipping them with their own canes before kicking them out to the street in front of an astonished crowd of onlookers. http://bikyamasr.com/53028/egyptian-women-cane-morality-police/#.TwnlF_OOqnd.facebook

January 10, 201214 yr Great story! May others follow their example! For information, does Egypt still practise female circumcision? unfortunately the answer is yes and the ugly "tradition" is even upheld by the majority of the Coptic Christian community
January 10, 201214 yr No, I haven't but love the story! Hope they didn't face repercussions later tho with the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist factions gaining absolute majority in the ongoing elections the outlook for women and human rights in general is bleak.
January 10, 201214 yr No, I haven't but love the story! Hope they didn't face repercussions later tho When the men can assemble a mob at least ten times the number of women anticipated to oppose them, I'm sure they'll demonstrate violently outside the beauty shop. If they get twenty times the number of opposition, they may even feel confident enough to attack someone. (With Allah's blessing, of course)
January 29, 201214 yr No, I haven't but love the story! Hope they didn't face repercussions later tho with the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist factions gaining absolute majority in the ongoing elections the outlook for women and human rights in general is bleak. Suddenly I'm reminded why I like living here, in a country where a young-lady can strip to her 'undies' to protest agricultural-subsidies, and become the subject of admiration rather than flying-rocks.
