Hello -- Can anyone recommend an english speaking Thai agent in Bangkok with experience obtaining import/export permits & Int'l Vet Certificate from the Animal Quarantine office at Suvarnabhumi Airpot?  We're looking for someone who has experience with the Quarantine office in particular, knows where it is, how to contact them, how to get there etc.

Thanks in advance for any leads. Best to all. VPB

Hi VPN,

when i imported my dogs from the UK, i used a company called Hong Kong Transpack who are based on Soi 26 Sukhumvit Road, the fellow you want to speak to is Krit Wongsaengarunsri. He sorted out the import permits for my 4 mastiffs before i arrived in Thailand, and got them through the quarantine office pretty swiftly, and speaks good English.

His mobile no. 081-315-3350, and the company's no.02-258-6827 / 02-259-0088 ext 26. I hope i've been of help, cheers Charlie.

I hope I can be a little help, since I have to do the same for my U.S. dog in a month. I am not using an agent, but rather doing this myself.

The Animal Quarantine Office is located in the Free Zone at the Airport. The Free Zone is not in the "Airport" itself but a separate building where you have to take a taxi to get to or drive there yourself. There is an animal office inside the passenger terminal, but it is located in an office by the bagagge claim and for import only.

For myself, I brought my dog last year in September 2011. He was required by U.S. and Thailand law to have certain shots prior to leaving the U.S. I got the required shots and documentions by my certified vet. then I took the required forms plus 35.00 USD to the USDA office for my health certificate which was valid for 10 days. Also, realize, as a general rule, if anyone is importing a dog, the shots need to be done at least 21 days prior to departure. Upon arrival I had to take my dog to the Import Animal Office located in the same area as bagagge claim, fill out a form, pay the 100-300 baht fee, then another 1000 baht at customs. Fairly simple process.

For exportation out of Thailand, they require the original vaccination paper from my home country, the U.S (which I didn't throw away), my passport, my dog, and I'll be able to get my health certificate (valid for 10 days). If you don't have the original vaccination record and if you can't get proof of prior vaccinations in your home country, then you'll have to go to a Vet. in Thailand and get the shots. Or at least that is what I would think. Export requirements from Thailand just require a rabies vaccination.

For U.S. importation requirements, they only require documenation that the dog has had a rabies shot within the last year and that the animal is visually inspected for any signs of disease. There are further restrictions for Hawaii and Guam. For other countries import requirements, I do not know.

My dog is also small enough to be taken on as a carry-on. I have soft kennel cage that fits most airline space requirements, so it is prudent that you do your research with the airline carrier before making any resevervation. Some airlines do not allow pets at all, some have different policies than others. If your dog/animal is bigger and requires to be put in the cargo hold, there are stricter requirements. Factor in breed, time of season of your destination, cage size, and other things I'm probably forgetting.

I would recommend going to scadbangkok dot org -->Adoptions--->Overseas Adoptions---->Pet Export Guidelines. Although this is an adoption website, it lists the export requirements. There information is:

Customs Free Zone

Suvarnabhumi International Airport

Bangkok, Thailand

Tel +66 (0) 2134 0731

(They speak very little English!) (Quoted from Website)

Hope that helps!

When we imported our dog back in August we tried to do the paperwork ourselves but on arriving at the airport it was made clear that we had to use an agent or else we wouldn't be getting our dog.

There were several people wearing badges identifying them as agents that were hanging around the customs area and we got one of them to handle the import for us.

If you brought your dog in via cargo, then I can't really say with surety if those "agents" are legitimate or not, but my intuition is probably saying they are scammers. If you brought your dog through carry on, then you definitely did get scammed as this wasn't the case with me. You just walk straight to the Animal Office after Passport control. It is in the same area as the baggage claim (IMPORT only).

Back to the OP. For exportation, I just went to the Animal Quarantine Office at the Free Zone at Suvarnabhumi. It's located right by Entrance 1, at building CE 1. When you enter, it's the building right in front of you. If you're on the right side of the building, it's by the docking station #20. The office hours are 8:30 AM - 11:59 Am, 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM, Mon-Fri. I got there around 11:00 AM and didn't get out around 2:00 PM. They closed during lunch, so I had to wait an extra hour.

Things to bring/know to the Quarantine office.

1. Passport

2. Dog.

3. Original Vaccination.

4. Your flight number, Thai Address, future address, name etc...

5. 50 baht.

They could barely speak English so it was hard to communicate, but still easy enough to do by yourself. You fill out a form with your information, they enter it into their system, do a physical examination on your dog, then after waiting, they provide you with the Export Certificate (needed to leave Thailand) and the Health Certificate (needed to enter the USA). You receive an original and 1 copy for each.

It was not required to use an agent, but I saw two of them there. I also saw 3 other people by themselves, so you definitely DO NOT need an agent to get your Certificates.

Hope that helps!
