Card Reader Slot Never Worked

Featured Replies

On my early 2011 MB Pro it turns out that my card reader slot has never worked. I thought nothing much of it and just used a USB card adaptor. I popped into the iStudio in Pattaya Central earlier today and the guys took a look and tested various other SD cards and they confirmed that my card reader slot doesn't work. They said they would try a software re-install after I have backed everything up but i am probably looking at a new logic board. Is it worth the hassle of sending away to replace the logic board? And would it have an impact on the rest of the system if I didn't have it replaced?

To add to above - If I did have it sent away for a new logic board then what is the current turnaround time from sending it from Pattaya? Anyone with any recent experience? This would leave me without a computer as my back up laptop is out on a job with one of my lads from work.

If it is out of warranty and as there is a very easy work around I would just stick with the work around.

Sending it away could see it lost, damaged in transit etc.....

^ Thanks Thaddeus - It is still under the 1st year warranty plus I have extended Apple care. It is very annoying to have spent a fair chunk of money on a product for it not to be working correctly. I can quite easily manage by using the USB adaptor but it still pisses me off !

I used to work for Apple, they are quite good at that ;)

As you have the extended warranty it may be worth giving them a call, the number is listed as 001800 4412904 .... as it starts 001 looks like it will be an overseas call, but they will be able to recommend a reputable courier.

That number is for a footwear company and is the same number posted on the Apple website??? Obviously they need to update their directory.
