Wireless Internet Speed

Featured Replies

I replied in the Internet speed topic but I reckon this is a worthwhile topic in itself.

Providing info about location, SIM, network and device type makes the data more useful.

I'm in Soi Buakhao/Diana. I wanted an unlimited prepaid Aircard/SIM.

I got talked into buying a Truemove E173 Aircard without my researching it properly. Duh, maybe.

The Truemove E173 with the supplied iSIM was about 1000kbps (typical, not speedtest) - acceptable.

However, according to the Lotus Truemove shop, it seems that they do not do prepaid unlimited.

The Truemove 3G E173 Aircard with an AIS SIM downloads about 220kbps which is pathetic.

The AIS call centre (quite helpful) claims that the AIS SIM is not compatible with the Truemove 850MHz network. You would not find this out by reading the information on the Truemove box.

After checking the AIS website it seems that their 900MHz network is limited to only 384kbps which is slow.

I just talked with Truemove call centre (most helpful). They said I could get a Smart SIM and an unlimited pack for it.

Scroll down to data and WiFi topping. Note that it too is slowed to 384kbps after a specified download.

OK, so I bought the Truemove Smart SIM and 1GB data as a trial.

Speedtest SIN down 1.68Mbps, up 1.03Mbps, ping 82ms

Speedtest BKK down 2.67Mbps, up 0.95Mbps, ping 114ms

AIS has specials on its website, for instance:

http://www.ais.co.th...rd/3g-7-2-mbps/

I asked at Lotus Telewiz, they said no have and wanted Bht2200 for the same Aircard with no free minutes. I called AIS service and they said that just because a special is shown on the website doesn't mean that it is available.........!!!??? TIT?

Floor 5 at Com has it for about Bht 1450

TrueMove H and DTAC operate 3G here on 850 Mhz, while AIS operate 3G on 900 Mhz. To slightly complicate the issue, some AIS customers can roam onto TOT's 2100 Mhz 3G network.

The air-card you purchased the Huawei (TrueMove H branded) E173 supports 850/2100 Mhz 3G, and also GSM low-speed data (850/900/1800/1900), aka 2G: GPRS/EDGE on all networks.

I do not believe AIS has 3G in your area currently although they did launch the TOT roaming service in Pattaya recently.

I am certain TrueMove H have 3G service in your area but you can verify this on their website: http://www.truemove-h.com/en/3gwifi_network_coverage.aspx

You can use the TrueMove H Smartphone SIM in an aircard, or you can use the iSIM http://www.truemove-h.com/en/isim.aspx both of these are pre-paid.

I think you can apply other "Free to Topping" plans, like the 3 GB and 5 GB "unlimited", to the iSIM, but am not 100% certain. http://www.truemove-h.com/en/prepay/prepay-topping.aspx

Unless I am missing something you should be using TrueMove H.
