Two questions.

1. What is the name and location of the mexican Food place many have raved about in Chiang Khong ?

2. What are the options for River Boat Trip from Lao side of Chiang Khong to LauPrabang (I can't spell it ok).

Friend is arriving today in CR and will spend the nite, then travel to Chiang Khong Tomorrow Saturday. Most likely will require stay over Saturday nite in Chiang Khong and get some delicious home made Mexican Food from the place reported on this forum before by a few others.

Is it possible to make a decent One Day River Boat trip to LP from Chiang Khong ?

Open to Suggestions for River Boat trip and also Guest house Recomendation for Chiang Khong.

thx............... KM

KimoMax,

(1) It's called the "Bamboo Mexican House." About one hundred meters from the Post Office, on the two-lane part of the main street.

(2) Two-day river trip Chiang Khong - Luang Prahbang;

"Slow Boat" - about 1100 baht - leaves every day - about 55 seats.

"Nagi Cruise" - about 4100 baht - leaves three days/ week - 15 passengers.

"Shompoo Cruise" - about 4500 baht - leaves three days/ week - 40 passengers.

"Luang Xai Cruise" - about $450 US - leaves two days /week - ? passengers.

Advanced booking is usually necessary for all but the "Slow Boat." And, all four boats overnight in Pak Beng.

"Speed Boat" - one day to Luang Prahbang - about 1800 baht - six passengers. Maybe, a bit uncomfortable for mature travelers.

As to a guesthouse, there is a reason I might be considered to be biased smile.png. So, PM me if you like. That aside, there are several good guesthouses in Chiang Khong. Fitting a range of budgets and preferences.

And, also for information, the buses stop near a 7/11 on the four-lane part of the main street. About, 2.5 kilometers from the Thai/Laos crossing.

Wish you a safe trip.

Thanx Twenty Baht. Tried to call the number and find that guest house, but no answer.

Just a FYI, a Thai has to have a Passport Valid for 6 months to be able to travel to LP. A Day pass (3 days for Thai) is only good for on the Border. Not travel inland.

Sorry we missed you TB.

BTW... Mex food was ok, nothing great, but what can be expected that far from Mexico.

They do try..........

KimoMax,

Sorry. The TOT phone line was down. Three days.

Yes, Thai nationals need a passport to travel to LP. Most don't know this. And, we see many turn back at the border. Not much to do in Huay Xai. Karaoke.

And, anyone who has eaten in Texas or Mexico, may be disappointed. But, a New Yorker here quite likes the Bamboo House.

Welcome, next time.

Cheers

I suspect it may be regional from the part of Mexico the owners lived in.

I found the ingredients fresh and tasty but the chilli peppers could have been added with a little heavier hand.
