Yes,know the crappy used car place-full of thoroughly pre-owned Landrovers that look like they've been towed backwards through the Dakar Rally. I'll take the dog to the vet tomorrow.

Got over the jet lag from the UK, now suffering a bit of dog lag. Locked the dog in the bathroom overnight where he got the shits from the new food, knocked over a bottle of Leo and then pissed on the floor a few times. Left quite an unusual smell, not sure if he drank any of the Leo but he was whining all night.

They will whine missing it's mother, maybe a toy teddy, or even the person who gave it to you in the first place maybe???? and also a cloth to snuggle into. It will need a feed usually very 2/3 hour's ???. Best of luck.

I can supply a photo of Mr's H/M shut's most thing's up, Tip, don't look at it directly or without dark glasses as you might turn into a block of stone.

And Mrs H/M makes really bad coffee.

She does make very good tea though, H/M like's his coffee black and strong and she give's everyone else the same, if I remember right H/M did get it sorted pored half of it away and topped it with more hot water.

That reminds me you didn't leave a tip AGAIN dam pore show. Just because you came round with some Anzac bickies a tip to the staff via H/M of course would have been most welcome.

Update on Blighty had the first frost of the year last night temp: going up to about 15c by midday, still got 4 week's to go 'hopefully' only hope that I can make it before everything give's out

Sorted out a few things-

Bought a 1,000L tank plus 250W Hitachi pump plus assorted fittings including a screw down valve as per Bill's advice to moderate the pressure. Bit of a circus at Global 1 as the staff are learning on the job. Not sure if I have all the fittings but time will tell.

Showed the dog to the vet who said we can feed it a boiled chicken/rice concoction. Also said it is a mongrel which probably explains why it looks like a small bear.

Called in at Mike's and had an excellent Weissbier of 7.3% strength plus a plate of German sausage-delicious.

Cheers,

Bill

Well done you don't forget the non return valve just glue it 'The right way round' some ware after the pump other wise you might find that the water could take a bit of time getting back upstairs.

A MONGREL what ever next not to sure if H/M can introduce you to any upper class now.

We have a left by the wayside dog pedigree of course, mum had also died but the thing was 8+ week's old it was peeing down one night and Mr's H/M said let it sleep under the car fatal it now run's the house, good guard dog though.

Glad you enjoyed Mike's place never eaten the sausage's much to big but they always look great that's why I recommended them.

Update Blighty.

Cold with more crap on the way allegedly, out on Sat: with chum's for a few pint's and a curry 'Indian' just over 4 week's to go and counting. Bugger me I'm cold.

Don't forget you need PTFE tape to connect the plastic to the pump or it will leak.

Crossy posted a good diagram on the DIY forum that shows the correct installation of the pump and tank installation. Due to the high mineral content of my local water supply I had to replace the non return valve with a on/off valve as it always got stuck. Just have to switch it if I want water when the power's off or low, which is quite often where I live.

Welcome any time Bill.

Water system is still on paper but first real steps tomorrow when we make a platform for the tank and pump. Like yourself Wayne I will also be using an on/off valve instead of the non return valve.

Your welcome anytime///// do you not realise with that + free goodies and you'll never get rid of him.

The valve and non return do a different thing, the valve will not stop the water self draining itself well only if you turn it off every time, non return is what it say's on the lid it does it automatic, we don't have very "limey" water in K.P.P. the one I have has never clogged up in over 3 year's, you can always put one in at a later time just got to cut the pipe and glue one in. Have a go and see how you get on.

The purpose of the non return valve on the input line from your water supply is to keep your pump from trying to pressurize the entire "city" water system. It will close whenever the pressure from your tank is greater than the pressure from the city water system, but will allow water to flow to your house when the pump is off - no electric. My system has been in for over 15 years and at first I replaced the valve when it stuck closed due to the high mineral content in the water supply as we did not get any water when the electric was off. I finally replaced it with a on/off valve. Yes, I have to go turn it on when the electric is off -very often- but I can still get water then. I can see no reason for putting a non return valve on the output of the pump unless it's a "blightyism"!

Helped put a system in for a house before and the water used to drain back to the pump don't know why but it did when you wanted water upstairs it would take time to get back to the tap's they without my knowledge put in a N/Return and it fixed it. I know there should be no reason for the water to do as it did but there you go, that's why I suggested to put one in all the other system's I have sorted have been for single story so not to clued up on double one's.

If you do a standard fix, main's to tank via tap then onto the tank ball valve they tend to let by so the tank overflow's can be controlled by the tap to reduce pressure.

Take off to pump also via a tap then into your normal set up should be no need to fit anything else if you want another tap to reduce the pressure up to you, all should be ok. Just make sure that the pump is about the same height as the take off from the tank. Have had problem's in the past with it being mounted lower, took ages to sort it out 'A Thai builder did the first fix' and had gone off with the paper work.

Understood, the valve on the tank bypass line will normally be closed. If the electricity fails then I'll have to manually open it to allow mains/ground water and close off both the input to the tank and the screw valve on the output side of the pump.

A non return valve would automate the whole process but I have concerns about it failing and apart from that if I asked for one at the KPP Global 1 store it's anyone's guess what they'd give me. 'Wow klap mi' seems to be the nearest pronunciation....maybe.

Of course I could put in a NRV plus valve in series but if it gums up as per Wayne's then it doesn't solve the problem.

The issue of the water draining back sounds possible depending on what the pump does when it is unpowered and if the outlets are higher than the pump. By rights the water level in the pipes should stabilise at the same level as the tank if the water can flow back into the tank via the pump and if the tanks bypass is closed. A NRV would prevent this.

My water supply comes in from the outside and goes up about 80 metres to 20 ongs in 5 rows of 4.

Each row is connected at the top to the mains input with an on/off valve and each ong has a ball valve shut off.

The outputs are also connected at the bottom with an on/off valve on each ong to the pipe down to the pump about 25 metres away.

From there it goes through 2 filters and the output of the second filter goes off 3 ways to each of the houses though the third one is just a storehouse now.

Just down the road from you on the right side is a guy who specialises in all sorts and sizes of pumps and valves and is a handy guy to know His English is limited but take your lady down and it will be easy.

Have not been in Global yet will need to on my return so you will have to wait for H/M verdict re the staff.

So you are going down the double set up Bill, simple just put a tap in both so you can turn off and on as required just a bit more piping in a loop fashion. Don't forget to do the wiring via an internal switch, make's life easy if you have to turn it off. Also a good idea to run the outside wire through some pipe to protect it from mice dog etc.

If all else fail's go down to Mike's and have a pint or several, always worked for me.

Just been to KPP Global again and bought a line trimmer. 3 chaps putting it together with assorted girls either looking on or trying to make themselves scarce, eventually they got it going.

Asked a couple of the girls loitering in the aisles about the non return valve aka 'Wow klap my'. Much nodding and 'Wow klap my' which we all agreed on. We then toured down one aisle of assorted bronze taps with the girls following behind saying wow, wow, wow, then back down another aisle , this time with chrome plated taps with the following girls saying wow, wow, wow. At the end I looked at them and they shrugged and said mai mi.

The Global training scheme if it exists must be a doozy.

I was down N/S the other day and it was a bit quiet, the usual traffic jams getting out of the place were smaller and quite manageable. Just saw the one accident in town and one bus on its side in a ditch off the main highway.

I'm planning on getting to Mike's again shortly for a few beers and dinner. Bought my girlfriend a pair of 200B glasses today so she can drive me home afterwards.

Now back from the "Goodwill Visit" to Patters and it all went very well down there, much breakfasting by the pool, swimming, exchanging pleasantries with the Germans, jolly decent chaps actually. Wife taking the market to the cleaners, yes very successful trip, arrived back in Nackers on the monday and have been trying to catch up with things since then.Blood Pressure check today all ok and ready for action so to speak ( undercover operations with the wife! say no more! wink wink!) and across the border surveys of the stables, ghosh do they pong, you get the first wiff near the Chang pleasure park!

The price of land now how much is it and has it gone up? Now we all want it to go up until we remember that for at least 4 years the Govt has been talking about at land tax of 0.5% they are moving from an income tax system ( most Thais dont fill in a form- so dont pay any tax) to a consumption tax system like VAT, fuel duty, land tax and the like, the ones you cannot avoid, so it might be worth you finding out what the local rate per rai is for the future, where I am in Tocland ( the Beverly Hills of Nakhon Sawan with out the HILLS) its 8000bts a rai. There is a rather nice hotel/restaurant called Beverly Heights on the east of the metropolis, near a hill but not far from a down beat area, not the same, would you want to live there, probably not.

Not sure if the H/M is hoping to spot a Hammers win in the UK or if he has sneaked back into the country now the floods have finished, anyway we wish him well with his eels, mash and liquor ( strange folk these east end boys!

Actually I went to buy a nylon strimmer cord head for my strimmer.

The tasty girl just inside sent me directly to the right place first time and she spoke good English.

The three guys I asked respnded with either mai kho jai or mai mee.

I showed them a photo, same response.

I actually found one of their strimmers which has one fitted, Same response.

A small voice said don't hit him with that Daddy so I listened to my 9 year old son and walked away after hanging the strimmer up.

I confess to being tempted to shove it where the sun don't shine but I did think about what my son said.

There were more nice tasty girls on the way out and some useless lumps wandering around called Thai men.

He's doing the usual festivities Turkey with either Beef or Lamb could do both not 100% but it's usually very good. Has been known in the past to sort out a few Leo girl's to help. There's several week's to go yet more info as and when.

Fred.

Tank and pump in and working on a raised concrete base with the wiring run in conduit. If anyone wants to know the standard man/woman/dog power needed for such a job is 2 workers, 5 onlookers who will offer all manner of useless suggestions and generally get in the way plus 2 dogs that will assist blocking the workers if the onlookers haven't already succeeded in doing so.

A bit of drama when we turned on the pump. We had good pressure upstairs but almost nothing downstairs. Had to convince the helpers that buggerising around with the pump and looking inside the tank for answers was not the solution-turned out to be a bit of plastic in the downstairs tap.

A couple of minor leaks into and out of the pump but should be fixable by tomorrow.

I am also considering suggesting a revision to the electrical standards. I witnessed that it is perfectly permissible to pull out a live powerpoint, plug a drill into it and then proceed to drill deep into the powerpoint recess without electrocuting the driller, at least not today.

Ate at Mike's last night-a steak plus vegetables washed down by couple of high strength German beers. Very nice indeed.

Rgds,

Bill
