CHON BURI:-- Bang Saray will host the world's first Cartoon Network-themed waterpark which, once open in 2013, should further boost Chon Buri's attraction.

Welcoming 5 million tourists a year, Chon Buri is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand. Last year, Pattaya was voted "Golf Destination of the Year 2012 for Australasia and Asia" by IAGTO." Bang Saray is 16km from Pattaya.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific announced that the themepark namely Cartoon Network Amazone would be located in Bang Saray. It would be developed under the lush Amazon Rainforest theme, while infusing the world's most popular animated series and toon heroes including Ben 10, The Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo and The Amazing World of Gumball.

"Cartoon Network is all about the fun and energy of the playground, and the addition of Cartoon Network Amazone means that families can literally step into our vibrant world of animation and vacation with their favourite characters like never before," said Sunny Saha, senior vice president and managing director, Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific, Inc.

"We are very proud to have Thailand as the spectacular backdrop for the world's first Cartoon Network-themed waterpark. Thailand's reputation as the Land of Smiles and perfect weather will ensure a memorable visit for guests of all ages."

The waterpark will feature exciting signature attractions including a gigantic family wave pool, a winding adventure river, speed-racing slides, family raft rides and one of the world’s largest interactive water play fortresses for kids.

It is being developed in conjunction with Amazon Falls Co Ltd, an attractions and resorts developer in Thailand. Phase one of the waterpark is already underway and when completed will cover 14 acres of coastal plains in Bang Saray, just 15 minutes from Pattaya Beach City. Cartoon Network AMAZONE is set to attract up to 800,000 visitors a year when fully operational.

"Thailand has excellent tourism credentials, a vibrant culture with a vast history and also the most welcoming people in the world. The addition of Cartoon Network AMAZONE marks Thailand’s very first internationally branded water theme park," said Liakat Dhanji, chairman of Amazon Falls.

"Cartoon Network is a global household name, and with this strategic alliance, we have no doubt that by welcoming our guests to meet their favourite Cartoon Network heroes, it will be a great draw for our park."

Board of Investment Secretary General Atchaka Sribunruang said that apart from offering substantial foreign investment, the themepark will create numerous training and employment opportunities for Thai people on all professional and skill levels and create many jobs both directly and indirectly for the local economy.

"The BoI is very supportive of this project and will offer as much assistance as required," she said.

As far a I know the picture is of only one ride ! "aquaplay" but this park will apparently have many world class rides. My kids are already so excited as they are the biggest BEN 10 fans.. i wonder if all the 10 aliens will show up as well..?

I live two kilometres from the site. It was going to be a 6* hotel/boardwalk/time-share condos/water park/restaurants/elephant park thing. It has lain derelict for nearly two years. Maybe this time?

Is this not the same patch of land that was to become the "Las Vegas" of Asia ( in a country where gambling is banned ) and was going to move all the tourists from Pattaya ???

The feeble first build that has been there for the last couple of years like Nong Nooch down the road, has Fibreglass rocks ....

Now please explain further,do you live 2 km from this one or the waterpark that is gonna be built next to the vineyard or the one they gonna build in Hua Yai.

My guess is that Thailand gonne be the hub of waterparks.

My good friend works at the one that's opening soon. The guy who's doing this is the same one attached to the previous project called The Beaches. Not sure how these tie together, but it's the same guy at the top. And not American. Just a marketing agreement with an American company.

When you say opening soon what time frame are we looking at? The Thai projected 2013? Or do you mean soon as in this year?

As for multi-tier pricing, there are more attractions in Pattaya that have multi-tier pricing than not. Nong Nooch, crocodile farm, all attractions at Royal Garden, mini siam, underwater world, Sri-racha Tiger zoo, Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Dolphin World just to name a few. If you don't like it, go get a Thai DL and you too will enjoy the lower pricing.

I could have sworn he said this year. Like fairly soon. He's Russian. It's a Russian owned project. Just a marketing agreement with CN.

But I'll check with him on what's happening.

I'm pretty sure there will not be two tier pricing at an American owned theme park.

Hahahahaha.

Yea, right. American owned but Thai operated.

Not American owned. And not Thai operated. They guys at the top are Russian.

Going by numerous previous reports in TV, water, electricity and Thai management are a lethal combination.

I drive by this "project" at lease once a week and for that last year year and a half the only activity I have seen is that the parking lot has the same number of cars parked there everyday doing who knows what inside

I guess the "investors" are paying all these employees salaries

Anyone want to bet that "if" it opens there will be no parking for the tourist buses so they will be parked three abreast on Sukumvit like they are at the Pattaya Floating Market

Yeah, I'm really confused. Wasn't that project initially suppose to be "The Beaches"? Today, I saw the CN signs up. And as you say, little development over the past few years. Yet my friend says this water park is near Silverlake! I'll get that sorted out shortly.

Yes, I remember reading not too long ago of electrocutions at a pool and some kid getting sucked into an underwater grate and drowning. Lets hope this new place ( if it ever opens) won't follow the trend.

You are confused... the Russian one is the one tucked away deep behind silverlake. and there has been no construction to date there, only land clearing. (as I live near by) the one everyone is talking about is the one between sukhumvit road and the ocean. Looks like they have plenty of space for parking behind the park site.

I have also heard this will be the only -world class- water park in Thailand and I would guess that to be true if Cartoon Network are behind it!

I think its great news for the area.

Sounds good to me, good luck to everyone involved, which will become good luck for anyone who choses to visit, and pay the entry price, as the management choses to offer. If they offer lower income locals a discounted price, that can't be such a bad thing. Are some people suggesting that the croc farm and other places should stop offering lower prices to Thais and local folk(whitieys included) , that they should all pay the usual tourist prices , in which case they would not be able to afford the experience of such cultural venues even while they are in thier country. Get real all you complainers; if it was same price rules at these places, the prices couldn't go down, only the low income tickets would have to go up.

Yeah it looks like they will have plenty of parking but will they use it for tour bus parking or open it up to market stalls? Remember this is Thailand and you have to be able to shop wherever your are

Unfortunately great news for the area doesn't translate into great news for the residents that will be fighting the inevitable U turn back up that will occur since the site is located on the side of Sukumvit going North

Just look at the mess that the Pattaya Floating Market has caused and you won't be so "happy"

Just to let you know what I know.....maybe I should restate that...because I don't know anything..

That place was called Beaches and most likely changed names and owners or investors because of the state that it was in. Remember they arrested the Manager out there. The actual owner would honor the deposits because he said he didn't take them...the manager did. This all ended up in court..I don't know the specifics but I do know the manager is in Jail and will be for a long time

Anyway, there is a Russian who bought 200 rai at Silver Lakes. My guess is that he decided that Beaches was a better place and is now throwing his money there. However, don't sell Silver lakes short because they are building a Venice Theme park up there. Bangsaray will explode in the next couple of years and the property prices will go up in that area. In addition to that the casino that someone mentioned is supposed to happen at Baan Ampur not Bangsaray, " The Ambassador". It was recently approved and the person I know that is directly involved in making it happen is pushing aggressively and those behind. Based on the movement in that area I believe it is going to happen this time.

It's not just the floating market that is allowed to take parking when and wherever they want. I have my office acrooss from a building that gets or is starting to bring in Tourist. " When I first leased my building there was parking. Now the owners of the building across from us say they own the street and we can't park there anymore, There isn't any option for paking on our side as all the parking was set up for the other side. Long story short, they Thai owners put up metal baracades even though no buses are there and when one does show up it is on a hit and miss basis. Now I will have to move my office then try battle it out with Mafia want a be"s

Lets keep our fingers crossed that they do everything properly, and its not like the floating market, I agree the road around the floating market is really bad as there is no coach park, lets hope the water park people do it better, as its foreign owned there should be more common sense.

The casino in the Ambassdor gets approved every time one of Thaksin's cronies is in power, but get's sidelined again each and every time they kick them out. Edited by janverbeem

I thought it was the opposite and Thaksin's preferred location for the casino is on the large area of land he bought in Koh Chang.
