Looking For A Touring Bicycle

Featured Replies

My mom is coming over in May and wants to go on a 7-10 bicycling trip in the region. So I am trying to locate a nice touring bike for her. All that I can find through google are mountain bikes though. She is looking for something like this:

She'll also need the bags on the rack (bag on the steer would be a nice bonus, but not mandatory) Does anyone know of a place that rents touring bikes + bags like these?

Also does anyone know any interesting/scenic routes in the region? She wants to drive about 60-80km per day and then spend the night. She is open to suggestions, but would like to end up in Krabi, spend a few days there and then ride back.

:)

I just biked to Krabi from Chumpon, took my time, 7-10 days is about right. Chumphon to Ranong in 2 days (stop Kraburi), then Kapoe, Khuraburi, Khao Lak, Thai Mueang, Phuket, then I ferried to Phi Phi and Lanta (staying both places) and the last day biked up to Krabi and went to Surat on the bus with the bike in the luggage (you have to arrange that with them). Overnight trains Bkk-Chumphon and Surat-Bkk.

I was on a very cool Jamis racing bike I brought from the US. There are great bikes for sale here, and the panniers and other equipment, but they don't come cheap. ProBike on Sarasin right by Lumpini Park is a good place to look.

Thanks for the reply Montrii. Sounds like you had a fun trip. Buying or renting a bike from BKK is probably one of the last option I want to take.

Does nobody know a shop in Phuket that rents or sells touring bikes?
