2012 Formula One Season

Brilliant performance by Nico and Merc. Shame about Schumi's DNF as it would have been a Merc 1 - 2. Norbert Haug sure was a happy man in post-race interviews and during the podium ceremony.

Would have thought that for safety and security it would have been easier for all of F1 teams to have made use of there Motor-homes, brought in a load of camp beds, better to rough it a bit for 4 days then get caught up with the unrest outside..

Better still, if it's that unsafe, is to stay away.

I was expecting Bahrain immigration to be packed with fans arriving but found it quiet and disorganised. They had 2 dedicated F1 queues on the left, one for team members and the other for F1 visas. As a regular through Bahrain immigration I found the officers less friendly than past experiences.

Police presence on the roads is noticable with police land cruisers with flashing lights parked every 500 metres or so along the main roads.

This race should not be taking place. Shame on Bernie Ecclestone

Force India will not complete Free Practice 2, but will leave for their hotel before dark according to ESPNF1's FB page

It is not racing when the winner is who can control the wear on his tires the best

It is 2012 you would think they could make a tire that could last 50 - 70 laps

Sorry, I used to enjoy the sport, but now it is like watching a parade, not much

happens.

Despite Bernies (The Money) Ecclestones's pleading. Force India opted not to take part in Free Practice 2 at all.

My wish Sunday, after the warm up lap the grid climb out of their cars.

You must be joking. Did you see the last race? There might not have been much of a fight for first, but for all the other places it was very tight.

As for the tyres thing, sure they could make a tyre last as many laps as they wanted, within reason, but to achieve that sort of slow degredation, they wouldn't be very fast, so what would it achieve?

The tyres are designed to be crap. Anyone else remember when Mansell went from start to finish non stop in a Williams?

Anyone else think the track has no character. In parts it looks like it's in a quarry, others it's in the middle of nowhere. Oh and if Steve Slater says one more time "One of the best momenys in F1 racing" Aargh

Problem is Mosh is that the desert has no character, yes they can paint squirly lines, but unlike many circuits there is no backdrop..

Can't believe Vettel has pole.. very disappointed..

The tyres are like Mosh said designed to be a challenge, it's all part of why the race is becoming more closely fought. Remember it's not just the drivers that have to control the tyre wear, it's also the design of the car. Teams can no longer sacrifice speed for tyre wear, as this is now a very important part of strategy.

Can't remember the name of the driver in the last race who was fighting for second in that pack, but his tyres 'fell off the cliff' and he lost loads of places.

Totster :D

Tell you what gets me with the tyres. F1 and green credentials. You change an engine = penalty. A gearbox = penalty. How much oil/natural resources are wasted making a tyre.

It will never be a green sport.. the tyres used in an F1 race (including practice, quals, tests) are nothing compared to the rest of the worlds consumption...

Can't believe Vettel has pole.. very disappointed..

Who did you want to see on pole Totster? Rosberg?

For me, in spite of some questionable behaviour since the beginning of this season, Vettel remains a class act and i think his success has been deserved - much like the pole position he won yesterday. The only thing i ever had against him was the monotony with which he was starting to win, but can't really blame him for that! Oh and yes, the one finger celebration and the "now that's what i'm talking about!" celebration on the radio was a bit grating, but he's young and successful so we'll allow him a bit of over-exuberance.

Should be an interesting race. My prediction is that the McClaren's may struggle to get on the podium today. I just don't think their race pace has been able to equal their qualifying, and with the Red Bulls quite possibly ending with a one-two, i can see someone else out strategizing McClaren to snatch third, as that is an area, as well as pit stops, that they haven't done as well as other teams this season. I may be wrong. I hope so. Either way, hope for a good one and most of all, hope for no off track incidents / disasters (no on-track ones too of course!).

It will be interesting to see how Red Bull fare in the race as I didn't expect them to qualify in P1 and P3 - their car improvements are obviously working!

Quali was odd, throwing up a few suprises. I wonder if the race will be the same? smile.png

Personally, I don't have a problem with the tyres as I think it makes both quali and the race more interesting.

Anyone but Vettel to be honest. The previous races this season have been brilliant where Vettel is not dominating.

I can't really call it for the race, based on the last races I think Vettel may have got lucky with his qualifyer. Looking forward to the race

With the other Red Bull in third, i don't think it was down to luck. I think they have some serious pace. We've seen glimpses of it already this year. Still wouldn't be surprised to see them at the end of the season, on top. For the sake of diversity, i hope not.

It's not that I dislike him, I'm just bored of him being first most of the time.

Fair enough. You must of loved the Schumacher era. wink.png

Where is the raceday programme?

Where is the raceday programme?

I'm watching it now.

But just about to turn over to watch the footy.

Star sports really need to get rid of that <deleted> Slater. How can any commentator call it wrong so many times. He even called a second pitstop for Hamilton when he didnt realise it was a reply of his botched stop. Pr1ck!

Vent over.

It was late starting

Quite an enjoyable race after all, even though Vettel won. I really thought Raikonen was gonna get him at one point, but then i think the tyre advantage he had wore off and then a pit stop put him behind a back runner, shame really, but pleased to see him on the podium

Was impressed with Di Resta, nice solid race, took care of the tyres well.

Mclaren had a disaster of a race, did not look competitive enough to get in the top 3 (good call Rivalex), even without the pit lane cock ups..

You obviously do not keep up with F1 as tire wear and degradation it part of the formula. So much so that Pirelli was instructed by F1 to create tires that did degrade.

F1 is more competitive today that in many decades, with more overtaking and strategy that in the 30+ I've been following the sport. Perhaps you've just tuned back into F1 after the Shumacher dynasty at Ferrari.

Four races this season. Four separate winners by four separate teams. Doesn't get more competitive than that.

You obviously never watched BBC F1 reporting in the Murray Walker era smile.png

Yeah another interesting race and good to see the Lotus finally finishing well, something they've been threatening all season.

Mclaren really had a stinker of a race, they must've been counting on a better result as maybe Mercedes.

An unexpectedly good race (it really is looking to be a great season), with more suprises! i.e. the pace of Lotus Renault and Red Bull.

Both Mercedes and McLaren seem to be having real problems with their cars this season. The pace is there, but negated by various mechanical etc. problems.
