For most of us, that sounded great, get on with it. Except my mum, a retired nurse, who kiboshed the whole idea. She was right, but she looked at it from the perspective of a nurse. Crime Malaysian Woman Arrested for Stealing from Shop in Betong
Picture courtesy of NBT A Malaysian tourist has been arrested just two hours after allegedly stealing over 30,000 baht in cash from a bag shop near a popular tourist attraction in Betong district, Yala province. On 4 August, Pol. Lt. Col. Pornchai Choonuan, an investigator from Betong Police Station, received a report of a theft at a bag shop located near the Piyamit Tunnel in Moo 2, Tano Maero Subdistrict. The tunnel is a well-known historical site frequented by both Thai and international tourists. According to the shop owner, 74-year-old Yuk-Jen Sae-Jen, the theft occurred around noon. She explained that while she was attending to customers outside her shop who were interested in buying durian, she left her handbag containing more than 30,000 baht inside the shop. Upon returning, she discovered the bag missing. CCTV footage revealed a foreign woman, dressed in black with long trousers and trainers, entering the shop from the side and taking the bag. She later discarded it under a durian tree about 50 metres from the shop. Ms Yuk-Jen’s daughter reported the theft to local police. Pol. Col. Jirawat Duding, Superintendent of Betong Police Station, immediately ordered a response. Investigators led by Pol. Lt. Col. Rusman Deenamor and Pol. Lt. Col. Phongsak Khunbanteng reviewed surveillance footage and coordinated with immigration officers to prevent the suspect from fleeing the country. Within two hours, officers located and arrested the suspect, 55-year-old Yeo Kim Lian, at a traditional Thai massage parlour in central Betong. She was found in possession of cash totalling around 38,000 baht, in both Thai and Malaysian currency. During interrogation, Yeo admitted to the crime. She had arrived in Betong the day before with a group of friends and hired a tuk-tuk for sightseeing. Upon arriving at the Piyamit Tunnel, she separated from her group and noticed the elderly shopkeeper was alone, prompting her to seize the opportunity to steal the bag. Granted that they won more seats than any other party at the last election, yet they still could not form a government, not even a coalition government with any other political party. Crime Authorities Seize 2.5 Million Meth Pills Near Border

Security forces in Chiang Rai have seized 2.5 million methamphetamine pills near the Mekong River border in Chiang Saen district, in what is believed to be part of a major cross-border drug trafficking operation. On the night of 4 August, at approximately 23:00, officers from Narcotics Suppression Operation Unit 32, under the Third Narcotics Suppression Command (NSOU 32), in coordination with the Internal Security Operations Division and local administrative officials from Chiang Saen district, acted on intelligence regarding a drug trafficking attempt. Authorities had received a tip-off that a large quantity of meth pills would be smuggled across the Mekong River from a neighbouring country into Thailand. The drugs were then expected to be transported along rural roads to storage locations before being moved further into the country. Security personnel launched a coordinated patrol and surveillance operation, focusing on key rural roads in the area. During their sweep, they discovered a suspicious pile of ten sacks hidden among tall grass along a roadside in Ban San That, Moo 4, Yonok Subdistrict, around 6 to 7 kilometres from the Mekong River. The sacks had been carefully concealed with branches and foliage, but no suspects were present at the scene. Upon inspection, each sack was found to contain approximately 250,000 methamphetamine pills, totalling around 2.5 million pills. Officials believe the traffickers abandoned the drugs upon realising they were being monitored and fled the scene. All seized narcotics have been handed over to Chiang Saen Police Station as evidence. Authorities are now expanding their investigation to identify and apprehend those involved in the smuggling operation.
