Thanks, I thought it was something like that. Thought I heard someone say จั๊กแลน but couldn't find it on the Web. Using your spelling จั๊กแต๋น I found it on olddreamz.com - is that where you saw it?

yes , i found that word from the olddreamz site

and i heard the word jak ka lhan จั๊กแหลน /จั๊กแหล่น but i dont know the meaning :o

guess what? im just really curious so i walked to the Somtam vendor near my clinic 5 mins ago .. and ask the seller how to call grasshopper in isan word

she and her hubby told me, just tuk ka tan ( and say u can call lizard =ka pom) :D

but i think it'd have the isan word for tukkatan ..maybe i'd ask other people

I was told it was Isan for 'grasshopper', that's why I wanted to check. It's been proposed as the name for a band I'm playing with, cuz the two farangs in the band (half farang members, half thai members) think it looks cool written in english as 'The Jackalans' (an intentional mispronunciation). I was sceptical ...
