And because I'm a nice guy, I advise you to read this very interesting article before replying : http://www.huffingto..._n_1237796.html

Sorry mate, we've moved on since your time. Intelligent discussion is a thing of the past, like cinema organists

SC

WOW, do l remember those. smile.png

I take it you mean the organists. To be honest, intelligent discussions are like warm summers' days in Scotland. You think you remember them, but it was actually only one or two, and it wasn't actually warm, it was just that it stopped raining and the sun came out. Only by our own sadly parochial limited standards could we call them warm or intelligent.

Still, if he didn't want to live by our standards, he'd not have posted on this forum. Its good enough for me, and if he's such a quick driver, he'd not be behind me in the first place....

A question to the OP. On top of your list is "The lack of education amongst even the most educated Thais. I miss having intelligent discussion with people outside of the internet."

Do you mind giving me a few examples of "intelligent discussion" you recently had on the internet ? I personally have a problem to qualify your racist rant as an "intelligent discussion" but I'm open minded and ready to be proved wrong

The idiot always asks for examples. I have a better idea; why don't you attempt the following tasks; look up the definition of "rant", explore the other forums out there on the web (there are quite a few!). Carefully think about the question/statement you would like to make, and then come back and post something that makes sense.

rants. v.intr. To speak or write in an angry or violent manner

You seem pretty angry against the Thais. In your opening post, you managed to call them stupids, racists, corrupted, and dishonest. And that just in a few lines. I consider that pretty violent.

So I stand with my "racist rant".

Now lets talk about your "intelligent discussion" ...

And because I'm a nice guy, I advise you to read this very interesting article before replying : http://www.huffingto..._n_1237796.html

You did not fully complete the assignment I gave you. However, I am satisfied that you carried out my orders "reasonably" well.

The only person on this thread who has used the words; stupid, or racist, in regards to the Thais, is yourself. Actually, if you can find any of those words being used BY ANYONE in this thread, then please point me towards this????

It is quite clear that you are a racist, and you have a very low opinion of Thai's. If you cannot refrain from using derogatory epithets towards Thai people, then I suggest you keep quiet.

Let's keep this conversation out the gutter.

Making a move to another country is easy, noooooooo problem, BUT over coming the differences is another question. You need balls and be very understanding that your upbringing is waaaaaaaaaaaaay different.

Many can't handle it, many cannot ignore the differences, you are the folk that move on. Nooo problem, just move on to find something you can deal with.

Big point here ! What a number of posters here call "intelligent discussion" is a discussion with people sharing the same culture, the same stereotypes. It just shows their inability to communicate at a high level with people from a foreign culture. Not a great sign of intelligence in my opinion.

I've lived here continuously for about 6 years now, and I plan to return to the US later this year...possibly July/August.

The main reason I'm leaving is education for my daughter, who is (you might guess!) 6 years old . I can't afford the top notch schools here, and even if I could, I believe FREE schools back home are better than the ones here.

I'd have probably already departed if certain family issues (ie Mom) didn't exist. Other reasons i'm leaving are:

Food: I used to be very curious about various Thai foods and enjoy trying new tastes. Now, more and more, the things everyone is eating around me just looks disgusting.

Sports: I miss cheering on the local teams back home. College basketball, baseball, even high school sports, football, etc. I just haven't been able to get into the sports here. I've tried..attending many many TPL football matches but I miss my sports.

Magazines, Newspapers, Books.

Good television.

Weather that is conducive to outdoor exercise during daylight hours.

That's about it.

You are totally wrong about the schools- the best fee paying schools here are equal to almost any in the world-certainly better than the free ones back home.

Good TV-??!! you mean find a good TV show and wait one week before you can watch the next episode??!! DVDS, pantip!

I'm flagging under the cost of school fees, and so I looked at school costs back home, and I'd certainly not be saving much moving back... in fact, I think more expensive, though I didn't pursue it in detail. A colleague moved back a few years ago, and reckoned it was a step back for his child's education, though there is more to life than books and certificates.

I don't have time to watch much TV anyway, except for sport - and, of course, pornography. I do my best myself, but I still enjoy watching the likes of Johnny Wilkinson or Tera Patrick.

You are comparing apples to oranges. You cannot compare the best fee paying schools in one county, with a free school in another country????

If you want to draw a comparison, compare the government schools in Thailand with the government schools in the UK, and U.S.

and the best fee paying schools in Thailand, with the best fee paying schools in the UK, and U.S

The man was clearly referring to Thai gov schools.

As for the t.v. - There are only 100 "real" channels with the True Visions platinum package. Back in the U.S, you get 400 channels for the same price.

I left Thailand as my expat assignment was complete. No muss, no fuss, rotated back to the "world". But, I have been infected with the fever and have been returning on work assignments and for pleasure for many years. There is something about the care-free, mai pen rai attitude that suits my psyche. When you live your life by a schedule and stress is something you have for breakfast, the laid back attitude Thais have about life is refreshing. That is until the waitress screws up your order for the 3rd time.

Funny stuff here that is all projected outward how about looking at yourself before laying it on Thailand and Thai people. Ask yourself why did you come here in he first place, what were your expectations of a new life here. I would be willing to bet many of the reasons a person leaves their original home or the one before Thailand are some of the reasons you are now leaving Thailand.

People always look outward to justify all their own faults and decisions, take a good hard look at yourself first. Good luck to all who leave,Thailand isn't for everone.

I left Thailand because I got bored of it. I got sick of being surrounded by Thailand 24 hours a day. I got fed up with eating, seeing, hearing, speaking and interacting with Thailand during every single waking moment. When I'm in the UK I rarely think about British culture. I don't talk about Britain all the time. In fact, I hardly notice I'm in the UK. It's not something that's in the forefront of my mind, but in Thailand I found myself constantly wrapped up in Thailand and it started to do my head in. I know this all sounds like a bit of a strange thing to say and I expect most people would read this thinking "wow, you lived in Thailand and your surprised at how Thai it was?" and I'm just as surprised as anyone at how I ended up feeling but I did feel that towards the end so I came home. I started to crave being normal again as opposed to being a falang. I started to crave being able to talk to anyone without wondering if I'll be understood. I basically started to crave normality again.

I still love Thailand, it's still my favourite country and I don't regret for one moment trying to live out there, and I will still holiday there as much as I can but as somewhere to settle, it just wasn't for me.

Hehehe an honest man but tell me what is normal.

For Pastitche

My colleague's daughter left Patana to go to a highly respected Glasgow school (not an international school) and felt she was dropping back a year. According to the academic results and competitions I would concur. In terms of personal development, I think that the greater opportunity for mischief (as opposed to depravity) would be a plus for Scotland, and the greater opportunity for independence. I would imagine that international schools in Scotland are inferior to international schools in Thailand, because locals will not send their children there. They would send them to the best Scottish schools. And so would Johnny Foreigner.

This has the makings of (yet another) Thai bashing thread. Perhaps the OP needs reaffirmation that he's not the only one who couldn't cut it...eh, was fed up with all that's wrong with Thailand. I suspect that there may be a few disgruntled expats who would love to come on here and reinforce to themselves that they made the right decision in leaving Thailand, and to remind those of us who stayed that we're schmucks. I do hope that they will share with us the Utopia that they have found....although I always wonder why these guys are still interested in Thailand even after they've left.

Funny thing is when I left the USA, I don't recall going on some USA-centric website to announce that I was leaving and giving a litany of reasons why. I knew I forgot something!

At least some of us who dislike so many aspects of Thailand dont just complain about it whilst living here, we leave or are leaving, Action speaks louder than words
