Pattaya Residents Songkran Poll

In previous years I haven't really paid much attention to Expat forums during Songkran but this year I have. I have to say it has been interesting reading about all the complainers struggle to get through this traumatic time called Songkran.

I went out yesterday with my wife for the final day of Songkran and it was a fantastic day. Based on what I saw and the amount of people I cant ever see there will ever be a case for getting rid of Sogkran all together in Pattaya. There is no doubt there are some dangerous elements to Songkran but on the whole the last 10 days have seemed tame for Pattaya standards.

Taking both positives and negatives into account I am just interested to see (if Expats could decide) how long you would want Songkran to be in Pattaya.

Way down South (Songkhla) it starts on the morning of the 13th and finishes on the evening of the 13th. Just fine.

Well from reading various posts on this forum over the last 7 days I don't think I could be blamed for thinking that's what many of you guys want. In fact i'm surprised there aren't quite a few of "no songkran" votes. Maybe I should not of made it a public poll....lol

I would not find it difficult to believe that many expats wish there was no Songkran, so I would not consider the OP to be disingenuous. People may wish (secretly or not-so-secretly) that there was no Songkran if they had their dithers, but they would definitely be wrong to think that will change anything! I'd imagine such a person may not fully embrace Thai culture, and are among those that leave the country every year to avoid Songkran entirely. Since it's not a celebration they grew up with, I imagine they simply hate that their day-to-day life in paradise is disrupted by the many inconveniences that Songkran presents.

I personally LOVE Songkran and voted for a 7-day celebration. Glad you took part and had fun, Rintein - Happy New Year to you and the wife!

1. Full scale terror: 1 day, 19th. 2. Localized mayhem: 2 days, 18-19th.

3. Inconvenience to visit central Pattaya: 6 days, 14-19th

4. Inconvenience to visit Beach Rd Soi 7-8: 8 days, 12-19th

I am a resident (for 2 more days) but cannot vote since I'm using the lackluster TV app (due to a rather annoying IP ban), but if I could vote I would say it is fine as it is. Just buy yourself a Binky for next year to soothe all of the crying.

I agree, but you have to add some more Sois to Nr 4. (For example Soi Half a Dozen, Soi Buakow). And it also started in those area's late afternoon on the 11th.

If Songkran was 3 days in Pattaya already, there would be plenty of expats voting to abolish it completely. It is 4 days in Chiang Mai and there are plenty of bitter complaints about that.

But today I had to visit the doctors for a very sudden onset of infectious dermatitis that has caused a painful and nasty rashes, no doubt from an infection caused by contaminated water throwing.

It is clear that water treatment systems can't cope with Songkrang, and are we effectively throwing around raw sewerage?

The Bangkok Pattaya Hospital has been busy with similar cases, and so are the eye clinics..

If Songkran was 3 days in Pattaya already, there would be plenty of expats voting to abolish it completely. It is 4 days in Chiang Mai and there are plenty of bitter complaints about that.

This is what I was prescribed.. Get down to Fascino and get the following..

Auglav1000mg (antibiotic Amoxycillin/Clavulanic Acid), twice a day for 7 days (14 tablet pack)

Fucicort cream (fusidic acid 20 mg/Betamethasone 1mg) 15g tube

PS.. I am not a doctor and you could be allegic to penicillin so if you trust anything I say then your probably mad :-)

That's a big drastic for an itch. The worst part for me is my balls are itchy - I got this once before swimming in a public pool. Some Betadine feminine wash will do the trick - and give you guys an excuse to flame me LOL.

This is another aspect that the sanctimonious know-it-all supporters of the period of insanity and mayhem do not understand. People need medical attention during this period and it's impossible to get it without being drenched.

Many elderly Expats don't or can't drive and need to rely on public transport - the baht-buses are not safe during the mayhem. The assumption that most Expats have private transport is absurd. I know of many who don't. The admonition "just plan ahead and you'll be ok" is silly and naive. It's impossible to plan ahead for unexpected and unpredictable medical issues and emergencies.

And if it was up to me, I'd have several teams of police and immigration officers who would witness all the farang morons suffering from small penis syndrome (SPS) who insist on pumping high pressure water from their over sized pump guns (another SPS symptom) arrest them...have a court hearing on the spot...convicted and be politely escorted out of the country. But with an option of paying 30,000 baht to the pot hole street department fund and a promise not to display any more symptoms of SPS.

I bet that would solve the idiot farangs who find it funny to injure people. Now what to to with the Thais? Well that is a whole different kettle of fish.

Yes I forgot about middle of nowhere Buakow, just change #4 to sleazy bar areas.

Helpful hint for next year for those who like to play: get yourself a pair of Lycra/spandex bike shorts to put under your underwear/shorts. They dry quickly and you will never get diaper rash from wet fabric rubbing against your inner thighs.

LOL, you havn't seen the state of my backside and legs have you? it feels like they were throwing acid around yesterday.. The Doctor said it was the worst case of dermititis he had seen since um!! about 30 mins before..
