Verify Web Stats

Featured Replies

I am getting stats from a business I want to do business with but I would like to verify the site stats, is Alexa the only option ? When I look at Alexa they don't show anything.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, if someone can simply say they get 1 million visitors and there is no way we can verify fine but thought I would ask.

There are several free web stat sites out there, here is one:

http://statcounter.com/free-web-stats/

Thanks for the link, if they have one of these counters on their site then I can assume the numbers are accurate ? I more interested if I can go to xxxxxxx.com enter a URL and see what a sites true hits are ?

On a side note, I am seen many sites that say the users are +50 years of age, male, post secondary educated etc etc etc etc how in the world do they obtain that information I for one have never entered my age, education, marital status but so many sites report who the users are and such details.

Try this one:

I remember once using a better site, but haven't needed to look at stats for a long time, but google is your friend.

I suspect that there is a lot of information selling going on. You might not have divulged any of your personal information, but it's not hard to get a lot of information with web crawlers. Then it's just a matter of cross correlating, "predicting" and lying.

Thanks for the link I've used that thing called Google LOL but I cannot figure out if there is any way to verify if someone is reporting correct site stats.

I would not believe anything they say in regards to visitors, not "hits". Their webhost should have a stats program installed (most likely awstats), then have these guys instail on of the free 3rd party tracking programs as mentioned above, and also have them put in the google analytics code. Wait one month then ask to see the stats from all 3 different trackers and you'll have a good idea of the traffic. If the seller doesn't want to do this, then their numbers aren't legit. Anyone selling a site always provides stats to the potential buyer.
