[Myanmar] Govt To Loosen Rules On Ngo Registration

An adviser to Burmese President Thein Sein says the government plans to amend a law concerning the registration of local and international non-government organizations, according to a report by The Myanmar Times. “The government wants to increase cooperation with NGOs … [and] intends to loosen restrictions gradually,†presidential adviser Dr Nay Zin Latt said last week. According to Ministry of Home Affairs statistics, 280 domestic groups had registered as of the end of last year. However, there are believed to be a total of about 20,000 non-government groups active in the country.
