What A Shower! Business Hires Seven Jobless People... But None Turned Up For Work Because It Rained

Featured Replies

Carl Cooper thought he was doing a public service by offering seven benefits claimants the chance to work for him.

But the company boss was flabbergasted when none of them turned up on the first day.

Astonishingly, not a single one even had the courtesy to tell the marketing firm boss they would not be coming in.

Empty desks: Businessman Carl Cooper today slammed 'work shy' Britain after seven of his new recruits failed to turn up to their first day of work yesterday because it was raining

Mr Cooper and other staff members called the new employees to ask them where they were. Initially, some refused to answer their phones when they recognised the number calling them.

When the staff finally got through, five said they would be better off staying on state benefits rather than doing the commission-based work.

Four of the seven also claimed torrential rain had put them off.

One was unhappy about the prospect of paying a £5 train fare and another called at 12.45pm and said: 'Oh, sorry – I overslept.'

The saga illustrates the problems of enticing many young people to work, even at a time of recession and high unemployment.

the UK really needs to stop benefits !!!!, i beleive benifits where introduced by Winston Churchill ( quote me if i am wrong ) , to help the people in real need !, now benefits seem to be better then a job !!! ....

Workhouses! Bring back the Workhouses!!

Mwahahahahahaha!!!!

Put em in the Army.

Sorry, but with the current austerity drive there will be no army by 2014.

I think it's not only Britain. Other countries have the same problem: If the unemployment benefits are so high that you can comfortably live off them, why would anybody work? Of course, it depends on the life style you seek, but it does not help the economy to encourage people to stay home.

Oh, well.

Good point well made. In that case, get em to build Adrian's wall again. The Scots seem to want it back.

Albeit I'd like an end to wars, just cos the UK will not have any Armed forces doesn't mean the rest of the world won't. We'll be at the mercy of Switzerland biggrin.png

Don't be cheeky.

I used to work HR in Bangkok for one of the big international hotel chains. Interviewed a girl for the position of Executive Secretary. Offered her the job but on the first day no show. GM breathing down my neck I gave her a call.

"Where are you? You were supposed to start at 8.30 this morning"

"I got a better job" came the reply]

Thanks for frigging letting us know.

A week later she called again and said that she didn't like her new job and could she still come to us as Executive Secretary.

Anybody guess my answer?

No, no. Good idea, actually.

Repatriate all the Scottish football managers that are bleeding the country dry.

And all the Scottish members of Parliament who have bankrupted the country.

Not exactly new. "The noblest prospect open to a Scotsman is the high road to England." (Dr Johnson, roughly quoted) And it hasn't changed.
