Advice Sought: Mental Health Openings

Featured Replies

Hi there

I am requesting some advice. Hope that's ok?

I currently live in the UK. My stepson is just finishing school in the UK and is considering a move back to Thailand (he is Thai but has lived in the UK since being 8 years old). If he does so, then I would like to move the family back to Thailand (preferably BKK).

I am a fully qualified Mental Health Social Worker and have been working in the field of mental health for approx 15 years. I have worked with many differing mental health issues (depression, anxiety, psychosis, addiction) and utilise a wide range of interventions (e.g. CBT, individual/ family work, desensitisation, social inclusion, counselling etc). I hold numerous qualifications, one of which is a 'Degree in Psychosocial Interventions in Mental Health' (which included training in CBT, Family interventions and other such therapeutic approaches).

In my current post, I work with young people, 14 to 35 (and their families) whom are experiencing a first episode of psychosis. Many of these young people have complex needs and other issues often impact on their mental health (eg drug use). My team and I offer a wide range of support packages (inc. therapeutic/ psychological interventions, social interventions).

Don't want to bore you with too much detail. So my question is around employment opportunities in Thailand within the area of mental health, therapy/ counselling.

What opportunities are there?

Any websites/ employers (I have seen the mental health resource list in the forums)?

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks in advance

Woody

The two main clinics mentioned in the pinned forum (PSI and NCS) would be good places to make inqueries.

You might also try the various rehab programs catering to foreigners although these are mostly outside Bangkok. The Cabione and the Breathing Space come to mind.

Also siam-rehab which is probably the closest to Bkk. (Nakhon Sawan -- further than one would want to commute daily but close enough to come back to Bkk every weekend))
