Only 1 enrolment round at popular schools: Suchart

BANGKOK: -- Education Minister Suchart Tadathamrongvej insisted yesterday that popular schools must offer only one round of enrolment, after a parent network and representatives of students sought permission for the pupils to continue studying at a prestigious school in Bangkok.

The students, who graduated from the lower secondary level at Bodindecha (Sing Singhaseni) School but were not selected to study at the upper secondary level there, wanted Suchart to allow the school to provide places for them, even though it had finished the enrolment process.

A group of about 200 parents and students made the request.

However, the minister said 280 prestigious schools across the country were allowed to provide only one round of enrolment.

"I understand that parents and students prefer good or popular schools, but the competition [for seats at the schools] must be transparent, and the schools have to follow regulations ...

"Any students who do not meet the criteria have to find other quality schools that are part of the networks of the prestigious schools…

"We cannot allow them to enter the popular ones, as this would probably cause trouble later," Suchart said.

Looks like there's about 200 families who can't accept that their spawn are as thick as posts.... regardless of the 'gifts' they may made to the school in the past.
