Hidden Electricity Fee?

Featured Replies

Not sure what you mean by 6.89+- factor ? Our last month electric bills were up by 0.3 baht due to index factor going from 0.0000 to 0.3000. We are paying business rate and the direct cost to electric co was 4.46 baht/unit (includes tax).

My landlord just bumped my electricity rate through the roof. She showed me her bill for the building I'm in from May, it had a 6.89+- factor which is a business rate. She also said she went to the local office to complain and was told there is another increase on the way. Anyone else seeing increases like this?

yes. electricity bills for may and june have been frankly ridiculous.

Unless I'm being a total dolt here, she showed me bill with over 10,600+- unit that cost her a little over 73,000 baht, or 6.89 baht per unit.

May I ask what area you are finding the increases. My home is consistently OK but a condo I have near CMU is consistently ridiculously high. Last time it was because they bumped it up to business rates and I went to complain. They tried to defend themselves by pulling up reams of computer records which were not agreeing with my receipts - in that they had it on record as always a business user whereas my bills showed it quite clearly as being changed between July - August 2010.

Now it seems to have gone up again so when I have time I will have to go back and probably go through the whole process again. Its a pain in the butt.

I live a soi north of Hauy Kaew Rd just past of KSK (the Shell gas station). It's near Chiang Mai Lodge and another big condo. My landlady said they told her that all bills locally are being aligned with BKK costs so there will be additional increases in the near future.

It might be a temporary meter rate, quite possible to pay over 6 baht/unit with a temporary meter. These are only used during construction phase when there is not yet a Tabian Baan issued so the house owner cannot register for a permanent meter.

Interesting, the building I'm in (50 units) opened for business in February, I moved in April. The landlady said this increase is new.

I pay 6 baht a unit in the building I am in. I get a bill each month from the management and it is just 6 baht a unit and has been for 5 years.

The cost of my electricity is depended on my usage of it. Particularly during the hot months when I use the air con a lot. So far I have heard no mention of the rate going up but 8 months the rent went up a flat 1,000 baht.

I'm thinking about moving to that area (huay kaew residence). I was about to say you have me worried, but I guess it doesn't matter since prices are going up just about everywhere.

I would jump on here in defense of landlords. I have a friend owns a large apartment block. The electricity co provided a high voltage 3 phase supply but he had to buy the transformer which cost over 500k. To recoup those costs he charges 7b per unit and makes a profit of about 4k baht per month not a lot
