[Myanmar] Burma, Japan Start Investment Treaty Talks

Japan said on Monday that a second round of talks on an investment treaty with Burma will begin in Naypyidaw on Wednesday. The negotiations follow up on discussions in February aimed at paving the way for Japan companies keen to invest in Burma’s opening markets. “We hope to support Japanese firms’ investment in Myanmar†by preparing investment terms that are non-discriminatory to foreign companies, a Japanese Trade Ministry official said in an interview with AFP. Japan is hoping to reach a deal before the Association of Southeast Asian Nations holds it annual summit in November.
