The chief executive officer of the French energy giant Total will visit Burma in the near future, according to a report by AFP. Christophe de Margerie will meet officials and members of Burmese civil society, the company said on Tuesday. “Mr de Margerie will be attending the World Gas Congress in Malaysia, then he will go to Myanmar where he will meet representatives from the government and the civil society,†a Total spokesman said. Total, which has been in Burma since 1992, has frequently been criticized by human rights groups for doing business with the country’s former junta.
