Aung San Suu Kyi told visiting Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr on Wednesday that she welcomes Canberra’s decision to ease sanctions on Burma. Australia announced in April that it would lift sanctions against more than 200 individuals, including President Thein Sein. “We’ve discussed the matter of sanctions and I am in favor of suspended sanctions,†Suu Kyi said, adding that if reforms do not continue, “the reward can also be taken away.†Carr also invited Suu Kyi to visit Australia, but she said she would be unable to take up the invitation this year.
