Up to now, I have been a True broadband user for 5 months. I have constantly experienced disconnections, slow speed, volatile performance without any reason during the day. And all these problems happened, literally, every day. Having spoken to them by phone they assured me that they would check up what is going on. The problems kept occurring so I decided to connect to an overseas proxy server. Since I started using that proxy server I have never ever experienced any failure. My internet connection is just running smoothly.

So what is with the True? Is it just a coincidence that my internet is suddenly performing? Are they filtering me? Is there anything, I didn’t know, in their terms and condition about blocking traffic and/or degrading the performance?

After the shambles with True(TV)and failing to uphold their contract with their customers to show all programs on the Thai channels so we are now losing out on watching the Euro 2012 football games I would not now change to True for my internet connection as I was going to do. I don't think 'True' care at all about customer satisfaction they just want your money.

On the evidence of your experience, I'd say your modem would prematurely disconnect after a few "seconds" of inactivity based on a "connection". Since your VPN is keeping you connected, your modem doesn't "hang up" quickly. It could be a wrong setting in your modem.

Does your VPN route all traffic through the VPN, or does local "Thai" traffic stay in Thailand?

I agree with your first line it does disconnect after being inactive, that is not the problem at all. I can handle it and it gets active quickly.

I have a Thomson router what I find a quiet an old model. My problem is: I am sitting here using the net and just nothing happens, my download speed drops, sometimes I have no connection for 3 mins, 5 mins then back again. And it gets repeated numerous times a day. But when I use the overseas proxy my download speed is great, no funny slowdowns, no lost connections and I can enjoy the benefits of the 7Mb.

I can't answer the VPN question.

I find that True DNS servers suck. Try changing your DNS servers to OpenDNS and you will probably find a world of difference.

TRUE suck

Every night for the last 4 night even their internet service is awful

It goes down for hours at a time during EURO matches

I have home internet 7 GIG package

Right now I am getting a solid .53

Any minute now I am expecting it to go down again

The Thomson routers as far as i know are buggy........... could be the cause too

Oh come on now lets be fair to true corp, name one other thai company that gives a rats butt about you after they have your money ???

You are dam_n right. But it still does not solve my problem as I am not a TOT or 3BB user therefore I am not going to bash them. It is as simple as that.

I am also a True Internet user with the 7MB package for about the last 5 months as well. Switched over from Sophon and generally found an improvement and Sophon was not as bad you describe your current experience.

A lot seems to depend on where you are located as there seem to be a fair number of happy True users in older threads. By the way I have a Motorola modem which seems ok.

It is kind from you to remind me of happy True users but the topic has nothing to do with finding happy True users, that must be discussed in a new topic. It is aimed to find solution for a ridiculous and lengthy problem. It is really good if you find improvements, but why would that make me happy?

My location should be perfect for this package as I am near the town centre in a large town.

Anyways, my problem seems to be solved when using proxy servers, without that my net is going down.

Garrya - seriously suggest you try my solution above. Google for "OpenDNS" and configure your computer with these. The site is good and has clear instructions for the most technically challenged. This will have a similar effect to what you are getting through the proxy server, because the proxy wouldn't be using true DNS servers to find websites.

Thanks for you suggestion. I have already changed my setting for OpenDNS and experienced no issues so far. My connection runs smoothly and I would even say, I have never seen such fast speed on weerkends like now. So I am happy so far, let's see if it keeps performing like this.

Great help from you Bino. Thanks very much.

I thought that is more a problem with another company blocking True's access to the free to air channels.

Posted in another thread, but worth a repeat:

Don't use True as your ISP:

and this is scary:

Now I remember: last year I was once logged into Twitter under another account.

I thought then that Twitter was heavily f*ed up.

But it makes more sense that in reality it was True Internet's transparent proxy.

Arghhhhhh.....

Stop bashing Grammy on this...

Grammy bought the rights.

They can't broadcast unencrypted on Satellite as Grammy only has the right to broadcast in Thailand and a satellite footprint isn't Thailand-shaped.

They could broadcast encrypted (which they do for their own subscribers), but to have True keep saying that they should do that, with a True-compatible encryption for True's subscribers FOR FREE. - I'm sorry but you're believing the True Kool-Aid if you ever thought that was likely to happen.

i.e. Either it should be something that True pays Grammy for - and broadcast encrypted.

OR - it should be Free to Air with the government introducing a law requiring the terrestrial broadcasts to be broadcast on all media, including satellite, like happens in the UK and most of Europe.

Without a law in place requiring it, Grammy does NOT have the right to let the broadcasts go out unencrypted. And if it's encrypted going out, it's a commercial decision, no longer a public interest decision.

i.e. True should have opened their cheque book months ago.

TrueVisions is encrypted, you need a decoder box and a card which you are unlikely to have outside of Thailand.

Meanwhile someone over the border can pick up Thai TV terrestrial signals and watch the matches.

Brilliant! Thank you for the advice, big improvement
